  1. Yea the bridge at Centreville was flooded over too (from what I saw on the news). Crazy flooding. Tons of sinkholes, landslides, trees down, etc. Sucks for everybody near any of these runoff areas and or creeks.
  2. Haha. Yea we are gonna hold off and do some pond fishing this weekend man. How abnormaly high was the water when you saw it?
  3. Hey Socr are you sure they are not cancelling it? They said on the news and showed video of Bull Run Marina and it is the worst since Hurricane Agnes or something like that back in 72? If I remember right. People at the park said they have never seen anything like it (managers and employees). If you are fishing I wouldn't even known where to begin with all that new cover with water on it. Hope you have kept an eye out for shoreline contours in the last couple of months. Anywhere there is large brush or trees would be a start point for me. They are gonna be roaming a lot more with the water up like this. Good luck dude.
  4. Last year when I was at smallwood park doing some shorefishing with some buddies we saw quite a few large goldfish. Pretty cool site. I would have loved to catch one of em that big. Good job Brett.
  5. Thanks for the info Matt. Be cool to get out on the Rez and meet some more local guys and learn more about tourneys and such as I've never fished em'. But I feel familiar enough with the rez to put together some fish... so we will see. My dad and I may try signing up for one this month, gonna have to talk to him and see. Later guys. P:s: I'm in it more for the learning experience. I don't expect to knock guys dead the first few times out. But I'm sure I could pick up a lot. What kind of limits are we talking about on average?
  6. G-Rod, who hosts the tourney on the 18th? How much is the entrance fee? Can you have your partner picked or do you get matched up? How often are these tourneys on the rez and how would I go about signing up? Lastly, are there any boat limitations? Like could we use our 17' Lowe's fishing boat, or does it have to be a jon boat or such?
  7. Takes skill to catch a bass no matter what you are throwing (as long as it's artificial). There is always luck involved no matter what anyone says but the skilled angler who has the right kind of line, rod, reel, bait for the given situation and has learned how to properly set the hook, fight the fish, etc. That person will always catch more than the unlearned guy. Fishermen have been catching on Mepps for decades now. I don't see any credibility issues using this lure. If it works for you use it as your confidence, go to bait. I guess you could say the same thing about the senko too, but thousands of bass fishermen still use it cause it's a reliable tool for their arsenal.
  8. Mepps, Yea dude I couldn't believe it when I saw it earlier today. But I have the link for the usgs site on my desktop so I know when the Rap is clear for wading. That water got cold as h*ll too man. Almost a 30 degree drop in temps in less than a week. Crazy stuff. I was looking forward to smallies too but we got some good ponds laid out. It's gonna be a fund ay regardless and if it's anything like last weekends outing we should have plenty of good sized largemouth. I'm excited to try out some of the newer ones we mapped out but even more so to head back to one of the ones we found last weekend (if the others don't work out).
  9. So since last Wednesday the Rap at Fredericksburg has went from a height of a little under 3ft to over 11ft. It has dropped in temperature from 73 degrees to about 44. So much for my smallie trip and wading this weekend... Does anyone know how long it typically takes the Rap to get back down after it gets this close to flood stage? Just curious. Looks like isolated thunderstorms on wed and thurs too. How long before you guys think smallie fishing on the rap will be a possibility? Dan, Kevin, Eric and Andy: Looks like we are gonna have to resort to plan B and hit some of those ponds we saw last weekend. My dad has directions mapped out to all of em' and we are gonna get details finalized Thursday morning or so. I'll pm all of you and let you know.
  10. Good job with the tube Dan. That's my favorite smallie bait. Funny on Saturday you said you had never nabbed one on that bait before. First time for everything, and that makes up for not catching em' on it before this trip. Great fish dude. Hopefully the weather holds up over the next 4-5 days so the Rap can come back down to near normal levels. I'm not gonna get my hopes up because at this point with all the flooding it's probably doubtful but we'll see. Can't wait to catch a smallie again. If not my dad and I are hitting those other ponds or Lunga on the Quantico Base. I'll keep in touch with you this week.
  11. Nice job Mepps. Not a bad day at all! I wish I had landed some of the ones I hooked into yesterday at the ponds we hit. One was definately close to my pb if not better. When it jumped out of the water it did a 360 flip lol. It was crazy, threw my hook way out. Anyway, looks like alot of these ponds are seeing the grass grow back pretty thick, I can see some in your pics there too. What are you doing next weekend? We are either hitting the Rap for smallie wadng (water level permitting) or hitting more ponds we found over the weekend. Pm me and let me know if you got time or are interested. Later dude. Good job with the old timer lure haha! Good to see some people still actually fish old school and have success. I need to try mine sometime and see if I can't get some bass on it.
  12. Well Myself, Rondef, Dominion Dan and Angler N Fuego all made it out this morning depite passing showers. We fished for about 6 hours or so and caught 11 fish and lost countless others. All of us got a decent fish today. My dad found some great ponds using google maps a few cities away and we headed up and fished em'. First time at any one of these places. Mostly bussiness community ponds. I caught one that went about 12ozs or so, one for 1lb 11ozs, another at 1lb 12oz, and my best was 2lbs 13ozs. Most were caught on the Pumpkinseed senko texas rigged w/ 1/80z tungsten weight. The only other bait I caught on was the Red Eye Special Strike King Spinnerbait. My dad caught the big fish of the day at 3lbs 10oz on a Mann's Crankbait. He also caught a 3lb even fish on the same bait. He caught a small fish as well. Dan nailed a 2lb 13oz bass and a small fish. He lost one on a shakey head that was good size and may have been the best fish of the day. Andy tore up the last pond we went to catching a 2lb 7oz and another a little over a pound in just about an hours time or so. We all had a blast telling stories, catching fish, joking around and getting our boots soaked in the muddy shorelines. But that's bass fishing. We are back at it next weekend smallie fishing on the Rap weather permitting, first time wading this year (hoping the water goes down some this week). If not we found 3-4 more ponds on the way we are going to try. Well attached are the pics. Some of the other guys may chime in. I just wanted to say I had a blast and thanks to this place I have found some great friendships with some guys that love fishing just as much as I do and can have just as much fun. Even if the fish aren't huge, it's about the bond created between us when we are out there. Most fun Ive had fishing all year long. Thanks guys. I didn't get the pic of my 1lb 11oz, it was ugly, had a side fin missing that had been chomped off by something. My dad may post the pic of his 3lber later and Andy and Dan may post their other fish. These are just the shots I got throughout the morning. Thanks again guys. WOO HOO Bassresource!!!
  13. Dude man those are some beautiful smallmouth. I like the golden type colors in them. I'd say that's actually a pretty decent tourney day there too. Around here you wouldn't get that many smallies of that size unless you were further south. I love those canyon type lakes you have out west there. Beautiful scenery. One day that is my goal, to make it out west there and fish those deep clear lakes. Nice fish.
  14. I think that's a great idea after reading the last one on Fisher of Men. It's definately really cool that you guys are doing that now. Plus it also gives us all a chance to relate to these guys we read about. Does anyone have the links to the previous four? I was just interested to see who else we have had up and check out their write ups.
  15. Nope, just being more careful about who I care to share information with and when I chose to do it. Not gonna leave behind all the good friends I've made because I disagree with a few other members. It's cool. Yea, crazy about them beds.
  16. Awesome info. Thanks Dan. I'll be sure to check Riverbend when I get home and try and see if I can plan a day to get out there.
  17. Dan, I heard they stopped permitting fishing at Great Falls Park last year. Know anything about it? I think it had something to do with water levels and I am not sure if it was a permanent deal. Anyway I'll check out those parks above great falls and what not. Do the banks get steep in that area like some spots on the Rapp or does it just depend on the area? Also if I put in parks and so forth for options will it show most of the smaller area parks?
  18. Dan, If I knew of some good spots above the fall line I would. Just closer to Neabsco and Leesylvania so I normally fish below. Where would the best launch area be to hit some of those areas above the fall line? I've always been interested in smallies on the Potomac. I see a lot of the guys in MD and PA hit the water above the fall line and can put together huge numbers of smallies. Never fished for them on a tidal water (other than Pony Pasture on the James). Is it tougher to find the fish or harder to catch em'? I'll have to check it out one day if I hear you're heading up there. Later dude.
  19. Key: Attention to detail. Waiting to anaylze what you did until after the catch. Pay attention to the depth of water you were positioned in (if in a boat) and the depth you feel you caught the fish at. Was water clear, muddy, or slightly stained? Different parts of a body of water have more off colored water than others and sometimes that can make a huge difference combined with cloud cover and/or sun. What type of bait were you throwing? Did you throw it next to a laydown, rip rap, stickups, stumps, weeds, etc. After that you put all that together as well as get a feel for the type of location you are at on the body of water (point, cove, bay, etc) and try to mimic that in another spot that looks very similar or has similar features. Sometimes you can identify more than one pattern on a body of water and that's really when you can start to whack em'. I do best at pattern fishing on rivers, not so much on lakes (still learning). Some of the other guys will probably emphasize other important factors. This is just my foundation I go on.
  20. Nice fish Mepps. Looks like it may have been a spawned out fish based off the belly in the second pic, but thats just me guessin. Good job dude. Tight lines.
  21. Hey guys has anyone else seen the sprees of bedding blue gill goin' crazy locally? Locust Shade has a HUGE population. If you walk around to the side opposite the pier and concession place the shoreline has a ton of blue gill beds and they are swarming all over the place. Midway down that side of the shoreline it is next to the long wooden 2x4 outlining that area of the lake (like Lake Braddock). One of my local ponds I see the same thing next to the grasslines. It's really cool to watch. These guys are going crazy. The beds are all just lined up. I even saw one fanning a bed out, that was really cool. I almost wanna go grab my micro light and bust out my little crappie tubes and grubs and catch me some dinner.
  22. Hey Hokie, check your pms dude. Had a question about a spot we had discussed in a previous pm.
  23. All of our summer bass were caught off dock slips, mouths of coves adjacent to deeper water (mostly rocky areas with timber as well). Most of the coves we fished we never saw too many fish on the depth finder with. Most of the productive summer spots I've heard from other guys were deeper water adjacent to points with channel bends and or drop off ledges (fishing w/ tubes). Just my two cents.
  24. I love Casey man. He's one of the pure down to earth guys in the sport (as far as I can see). I like this interview just because Glenn really let Casey do the talking and giving maximum amount of info in the time alotted. Good job Glenn. Well formulated questions too. I like how Ashley put our heads in on focusing on your strengths and what you know. The stuff about having the back up pattern put together just in case Plan A fallas apart or the fish are no longer on that pattern. I know I've watched plenty of other interviews where these elite guys stated they have lost tourneys because their patterns fell apart and they had nothing to go on. Good info there. Stellar job Glenn. Great contribution to the site as now all of us no matter the reason we are into fishing have advice from a guy who has made this into a great career and caught fish consistently. Thanks! And LKN, you're correct. He took the event at the Blue Ridge Brawl. One of my favorite tourneys last year with him, Rojas, Omori and Scroggins digging into each other. It was my first Elite Series event I ever watched and got me HOOKED! Literally.
  25. Welcome to the wonderful ways of Lake Anna. Unfortunately pleasure boaters will now run amuck well into September. That's why they say Lake Anna is a great "winter" fishery and early spring fishery. Once the water warms up you have to navigate around kids swimming, dogs swimming, jet skiiers, pleasure boaters, etc. Not fun at all anymore. Even most of the quiet coves are full of these people and there really isn't a bunch of fishing room. I totally agree though. These kids and people on the water craft need to take a safety class and there needs to be more caution on this body of water. I've seen some pretty bad crashes out there and people trying to do stupid stunts. As well as pleasure boaters and skiiers running their boats within 20-30 yards of fishermen and creating insane wakes and being completely obnoxious. Unfortunately this rant gets made every year, but this lake is for everyone so not much we can do. Just wish they'd have more managerial type persons watching these waters and more enforced regulations for everyone on the lake so we can ALL enjoy it YEAR ROUND. Best bet, go up lake til you reach the river. There it will be much better for fishing. Sorry to hear about your outing.
