  1. Yea the spawn of the shad makes perfect sense. I know in the Pacific Northwest it is a common occurence with the salmon and so forth (watched it on discovery) haha. Anyway there was a decent amount floating. I threw white spinners, sexy shads in a shad color, jigs w/ sweet beaver trailers, and a zoom g tail worm. No luck on anything in the 4 hours or so of fishing we had. Tough day on the water. It was cool seeing the carp roll in the back of the cove. Just wish I would have found out they weren't bass earlier. All we were seeing was tails. But one finally got stuck on top of the brush and I saw the colors and the pattern and realized it was a carp. Makes sense in the way that they were rolling and not hitting our senko and jig offerings. Lots of grouped up bait, balls of shad, bluegill, so forth on the depthfinder. Thought we had found some bass but the ones we may have been on sure didn't want anything to do with the offerings... bleh. Tuesday, post front on a new lake... should be interesting day for me. Hope you guys have more luck on the rez here in the upcoming weeks. Not my best fishery.
  2. Raisin em' up right there Paul. Looks like they had a bunch of fun. That is a BIG frog lol. I remember catching those things when I was little but not nearly that big lol. Wow.
  3. Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know my dad invited me on hyis boat for Tuesday at Quantico so I'm taken up for the day. We can always get one more if anyone is interested though. Pm rondef or I if you're interested. Good luck on the water this weekend guys. I'll be on the Rez going out of Lake Ridge before sun up and coming back before the thunderstorms in the afternoon. I'll post a report of how we do.
  4. Just pm me and let me know when you find out Paul.
  5. Hey Okrod I got a few ponds around Woodbridge and Fairfax that have barely any pressure and some good fish. Pm me if you're interested. I could meet up with you one night and show you some good spots. There is one inparticular spot on the rez not a lot of people know about (backwater) that has some nice size bass swim in when we have high water like we do now. Bet it's swarming. I may hit it Tuesday if I don't find a partner to fish the rez with me. Again let me know.
  6. I get one day off during the week every fourth week lol. Next week happens to be it. Because we have four people in our facility and we rotate Saturday. When we work it we pick a day to take off during the week, unfortunately I couldn't do Friday next week so I picked a mid week/early week day. Anyway, I work at the Testing Center for the NVCC campus of Annandale. So you peeps up for the rez or what? I need a boating partner.
  7. I feed it frozen now. Thaw it out and drop it in. Once they get bigger the mice put up more of a fight and I've seen nasty pictures of some snakes with chunks bitten out of them because they weren't hungry and the dumb owner left the mouse in to chill there. But yea so frozen it is. It's a heated debate but I fed live the first year. Definately was cool to watch. These guys are harmless. Their "adult full size bite" is the equivalent of a hatchling boa constrictor bite. I've never been bit by mine. Tame as anything and loves being handled. Never had it even attempt to strike me or anyone else that holds it. I know 9-10 year olds that post in my cornsnake forum and own them as pets. Harmless. Anyway. I have better pics I'll post later that I took with my regular camera last night. Doing an outdoor photo shoot tomorrow too. Should have some GREAT pics then. And of course I'll probably pull this thread back out after my new purchase May 10.
  8. Hey guys I'm off Tuesday and want to rent a boat at fountainhead and fish the rez for a day. Maybe we could get some boaters out there and split costs of jon boat rentals. Anyone interested? I can be there when they open rentals at 6am. Looked it up on their regional site yesterday. Lake Ridge doesn't rent during the week til' May. So if you guys wanna go I can pay half. I need one more for my boat. We could pair up though and have a couple boats and do like a mini tourney. Pics with digi scales and fish and what not, c&r only. Let me know and we can set something up for fun.
  9. As far as I know we as a forum are mostly catch and release when it comes to bass but it is a heated topic so... I will just ask politely that if you catch fish at Mercer or any of the local lakes (bass inparticular) you return them to the water to preserve the fisheries. Small ones every now and then are fine, but leave big mamas in there PLEASE. If you wanna take your perch and catfish home that's fine. RW, that's crazy that they were relating to actual trees lol. But not so much so if you look at other local lakes around us like Lake Curtis in stafford which has full grown trees in the water. Be interesting fishing there right now in a boat. I'd imagine dropping a jig down the line of the tree could be pretty effective. Though finding the water depth they are holding at must be a struggle at times like these.
  10. Lol, don't think I would have noticed if you guys hadn't said something. I agree with the decision, wise move and it definately should curtail some of the so called "drama" we get on here sometimes relating to post count. Anyway, it's cool that it is still visible under the profile though. Good call.
  11. Thanks for the explanation boss. Always was curious how you guys decided on that stuff. Makes perfect sense now. I could see how there would be issues that may arise if someone linked from a post here and got brought to a site that that has spam or some advertising malware or something. Ya never know. Just out of curiousity how often do you guys update that screening thing and add sites to it. Do you think you could provide a list on the mains ection of the forum of valid sites or types of sites that will/will not work? Putting up an explanation like this as a stickey may be helpful... just a thought.
  12. Dan, We've never been able to. I think it has something to do with taking away from this particular site but I don't understand it either. If you try and put in a url to link to it doesn't show up in your post and there's just a blank spot there. I noticed it a while ago. Anyway... I think if it's fishing related and this site doesn't have the answer (which is not very often) we should be able to direct people to a place where there may be helpful information. Links to local fishery pages, department websites, etc do not normally work on here... egh.
  13. Last pic... sorry for the multiple posts. Don't have these hosted yet.
  14. Hey guys, I was throwing up to date photos on my cornsnake forum and decided I'd put em' on here for the likes of Micro and other snake owners. Raydin is now 1 year and 8 months old. I'm getting the snake sexed next week so I can pick up a new addition for future breeding at the May 10th Expo in Manassas, Va. I want to eventually breed and sell corns when I get my own house and not try to do it from my two bedroom apartment. I want to make it my own project and start from scratch so I have my own line of unique corn snakes and know all there is to know about each one and how they came to be. It's a long process and a lot of learning for those who haven't researched it. Raydin is an Amel or Amelanistic Cornsnake (Albino). I hope to pick up either a Miami Phase, Reverse Okeetee, Snow or Butter at the expo pending on what breeders are there. This is normally a good time of the year for hatchlings so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Anyway sorry about the quality, took them with my cell phone cause my camera was dead.
  15. I was gonna go Tuesday on my day off but if there isn't a lot of shore access I guess not. They don't rent boats at any of em' do they? If not would anyone be interested in launching out of the reservoir on Tuesday with me and splitting the cost of a jon boat and gas motor. I can fish from 6am til 4pm so we could do an all day rental. Anyone interested? Fountainhead is the only one renting during the week right now. I haven't fished from boat much at this place but heard of some good spots to try out. I know the lower rez has had better catch rates lately and a lot of the timber on the arms and stuff should be covered up from the rains so probably plenty of cover and banks to hit now. Not trying to hijack. Let me know though fellas. Pm me for my cell number if your interested and don't already have it.
  16. I will be IN THE PARKING LOT by 6:45am. I don't care what the wife says lol, jk. But I wanna be there for sun up and get as much time as possible before I gotta bolt at 11:30. Hope to see you out there Rich. Paul let me know if you are still gonna make it.
  17. Sweet. That's not too pricey. Isn't there multiple lakes there too? Not just Lunga. Does the pass cover all of them?
  18. Dad, how much is the pass and where do you go to purchase it? Can you get it online? Also when are you going this week to fish it. It's right down the road from me if I go down Route One. Just curious. I heard there are some good Walleye in there too and lots of Perch.
  19. Ahhh, I thought you meant "scattered" as far as not all the fish being on the beds at the same time. my mistake. Tight lines. Should be an interesting rest of April.
  20. I agree with the sun thing, but the key will be what the temperatures are at throughout the next week or two and if we have cool nights or more fronts like this. April is a pretty rainy month. But your right, the spawn is scattered and not all fish spawn at the same time. The one's that were in process or paired up will probably be back on the beds when we see some consistency in weather and temperature. I just think the biggest wave of spawners is gonna come off the next full moon in May. That's gonna be heavy action time, and I'll be out there every day if I can sight fishing my pond, Mercer, and a couple of other smaller ponds in the area. Time to break out tubes, lizards, craws and spinnerbaits.
  21. Sam, I'm hitting my local pond either tonight or tommorrow night for about an hour if the rain holds off a little. I plan to whack em'. Let you know how I do if I get the chance to get out. But your right, my local hole (about an acre and a half to two acres) is full, all the spadderdock are covered up to the tips of the plants and the beaver dam is covered up as well. There are a ton of stickups that are now under water and lots of shoreline timber that has been covered up as well. I'll take some pics when I get out to show you guys what I'm looking at. I'll probably just tie on a Mann's crankbait and or a spinnerbait and run it along the grass edges/spadderdock and some over top. I tried a worm the other day but they weren't wanting it. The average bass is a little over 2lbs from this place. Some 3-4 lbers are in there too. Like I said I'll post pics of the pond and of the fish if I get any.
  22. IMHO I think the first wave of spawners is gonna be pushed back. The rain was a cool rain and I agree with Paul it probably dropped the temps in most lakes. It has gotten higher and I'm assuming muddier in run off areas therefore my guess would be since new cover has water on it and the water is muddy that they are holding tighter to structure or will be for the time being until we have more stable weather. I definately think that the crankbait bite that had died down on most lakes as of last week will probably pick back up as the bass will probably back off the spawn and start to feed up again. I may be wrong but this is just based off things I have read and learned about the spawn this past winter while studying up. Since the water temperatures were never prime to begin with I feel confident that this is what we will be experiencing until the next full moon in May. Of course things will change over the course of the next couple weeks pending on what kind of fronts we experience and mid day temps/sun so forth.
  23. Anna is very pressured. While the Potomac has a lot of tourneys there are so many areas to fish and runs to make you have your choice at picking it apart. That and it being tidal puts fish in all different areas tide pending, runoff pending and weather pending. It is one of the best fisheries around here imho. A map is a big help. That and understanding tides and fish positioning is huge. Also if you can fish grass or learn approaches to fishing dense grass this place is a bass haven. Good job on the 3lb 10ozer. Thats a nice fish. Lots of those and bigger over in Mattawoman and some of the other creeks like Quantico, Nanjemory, Aquia too name a few. Main river can be productive too if you know where to fish.
