  1. : Sounds to me like someone didn't get their morning coffee! Just passing on the word like anyone else here. Bad and good experiences alike.
  2. There are a whole lot of places to fish in Owensboro! I could think of 3 or 4 places right off the top of my head that produce big fish within a 30 minute drive. Public ponds aren't the way to go. They have a BPS in Clarksville, IN which is 10 minutes from downtown Louisville. Plus .... per capita we have the highest number of fishing/hunting licenses purchased for a 30 mile area in the state. Think about Muhlenberg County! Look at Uncle Lees down there in Greenville. They gross $2.3 MILLION a year in fishing and hunting supplies alone, and that's one of the poorest counties in Western Kentucky!
  3. I fish Lake Malone and Kentucky Lake pretty heavily during the summer. I have yet to catch a bass out of Carpenter or King fisher! ;D I've pulled several 6+ lb. largemouth out of the Ohio, but I have a boat so it's easier than fishing from shore. I can think of several good places on the Ohio to fish from shore. If you want to know a few let me know, and I can tell you where they are.
  4. That boat needs some transom work done on it. Might want to check your beams and bow eye while you're at it. Could be rotten!!!
  5. Some of you have been following the problems I have had with BPS in the past with returned items, getting my credits, etc... Today something took the cake that will keep me from shopping with them AT ALL anymore. I placed an order out of their Fall Angler catalog a few weeks ago for 6 Rick Clunn Lucky Craft Lures for $10.88 a piece ... as advertised. I was wondering where that order was, so I looked. Much to my disbelief all of the lures had been placed on 'Out of Stock' status, so I called and the lady on the phone said they were In Stock. She checked another order that has went out with the Rick Clunn lures, and it was placed 4 days after mine! It had been filled no problem. She tried to reorder them, and they had placed a 'Price Lock' on them to keep them from entering my $10.88 price codes. So ...... I told myself that I would 'fix them' so I went to the Clarksville, IN store to pick the lures up with catalog in hand since they have to offer their lowest 90 day price per their guidelines .... right??? WRONG!!! You wouldn't believe the hassle the in store manager gave me over the prices of their original $14.99 lures. It just so happened that I had left the catalog in the truck, and they just 'Happened' to have every catalog since the 2007 Master Catalog, but they didn't have the Fall Angler catalog for some reason. : I walked out the the truck, grabbed the catalog off the seat, and took it back in. You wouldn't believe the hassle they gave me even after seeing the price in red on their own catalog's page. He wanted to deny me the price reduction you could just see it, but he had to honor it. So, I took my lures and walked out! While I was there another thing I noticed had taken place. The rods that were advertised as the Pro Qualifier LTD editions were totally different rods than the ones the manager showed me just a few days ago before the sale! He showed me a rod that looked similar to the Rick Clunn Signature series, but the rods I saw today were cheap graphite blanks similar to the $19 Graphite Berkley Rods at Wal-Mart. I witnessed the whole bait and switch with my own eyes. Different rod being sold as to the one they showed me as the original last week.
  6. There's your edge right there ... michbass! You're running an Optimax with the Mercury SmartCare System that consists of the digital Smart Tach and Smart Speed. I'm running a '95 Evinrude Vindicator 200 that utilizes (or abuses) the VRO2 system. ;D The faster I go .... the more oil it pours in regardless of needs. Your Optimax probably offers a better Low End tourque value at lower RPMs also. I would love to have an Evinrude E-Tec, and I could probably pay for one in one seasons expenses, but I love being able to fix something if it goes wrong as opposed to taking it to the dealer and waiting 3 weeks to get it back.
  7. 3M adhesive sealant isn't intended to seal up structural cracks or leaks. You need a product called Marine Tex or, at the very least, 5200.
  8. I wouldn't give anything over $400 for that boat! You can get a new 14' Jon for around $1100! The trailer MIGHT be worth $75. If he's not willing to negotiate I wouldn't waste your time and gas to go see it. I've seen better Jon boats for $300.
  9. You can get the Rick Clunn editions from BPS for $10.88 a piece right now until December 31st. . Depending on which ones you ordered will determine the catalog code for the baits themselves. The catalog I used was the 2007 Fall Angler and the code starts with '13' in front of the numbers. Here are the codes for the baits themselves. All of these are the 0' - 4' models. If you need the DD or Deep Diver codes let me know. *Note ---- 'CC' stands for Color Code. RC 0.5 = 13-249-173 - CC RC 1.5 = 13-248-716- CC RC 2.5 = 13-248-892-CC RC 3.5 = 13-248-893-CC If you need the DD or Deep Diver codes .... let me know.
  10. You know that's what makes it a Hunter's Paradise! Right?!?
  11. With having a little more time on my hands this coming year I plan on fishing a few tournaments. Does anyone know where I can find fishing tournaments in Kentucky? I am a member of B.A.S.S. , but don't know the first thing about tournament fishing. I guess you could say I'm pretty green.
  12. Well I decided to go up and take a look at them today. The rods strongly resemble the Bionic Blade series rods, and the reels feel more like an Extreme edition reel than a Pro Qualifier. I seriously couldn't tell much of a difference between the Bionic Blades, and the Pro Qualifier LTDs. The one I saw seemed very solid, and they were all individually wrapped in the back stock room. : The manager did say that at one time they did come bundled in lots of 50, but they no longer practice this. I witnessed it! Each rod is individually wrapped. At least at the store I visited. So, make your own assessment when you get your hands on one, but I think they are decent rod/reel combos for the price. The only thing is that they claim to have a Blue hugh to them, but in a certain light they are Purple.
  13. I think everyone does it on their 'Black Friday' sales. Sears has their $20 Turkey Fryers. Wal-Mart has their $20 DVD Players. The list goes on and on. I'm gonna go check them out on Thursday at any rate. I'll get one in my hands, and if it feels like a low-end K-Mart quality rod I won't buy it. If I think it's a decent setup I will. Simple as that! The fact of the matter is there are so many companies out there that draw people in with a 'Super Deal' this time of year. To hold one accountable would mean you have to hold the whole lot of 'em accountable.
  14. I did have a problem with this back in March. I ordered 2 Pro Qualifier spinning outfits, and they ended up sending me two current rods, but the reels were the 2005 models, and weren't with the MagSpool. I had a lot of problems with that, so I sent the reels back and they sent me the right ones. Simple as that.
  15. That was exactly my point. This is NOT the Pro-Qualifier, this is the Pro-Qualifier Limited Edition, an entirely different rod and reel. Classic bait and switch by BPS. I hoped this post would warn people to be careful, but everyone's so blinded by the $69.99 price tag that they don't really care. Oh well Read my post on the other thread. Instead of passing around speculation read what I found out. They ARE Pro Qualifier Rods. I actually did the footwork on the deal, so it might be worth reading. For those of you that missed it .... here is what I wrote in the other thread. And the final verdict after speaking to the General Manager at the Clarksville, IN store.
  16. I already posted something on this the other night. Here is the link. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1195405335 Early bird get's the worm! Read on to my posts in this topic. You'll find out anything you need to know.
  17. Well from speaking to the Pros today at BPS there isn't any difference between their HM70 and IM-8 rods. I'm not worried about them. I think they'll be a good deal. Yeah, they might be something to draw people in, but BPS has been known to take a hit on a popular item if they think people will swarm in to buy more items.
  18. A lot of Pro's fish left with Spinning and Right with Baitcasters as well. I've found that it is the smaller reel handle on the baitcasters that make it awkward when fishing left handed baitcasters. I can fish them, but it's not as comfortable. I too fish spinning left and baitcaster right, and I am traditionally a right handed person. But, if you watch the Pros sometimes you will see Stacy King or Jason Quinn fishing both left and right handed baitcasters.
  19. This is an insane deal... do you have any more details? Is this all the Bass Pro Shops stores? What are the hours they are running the sale? I will definitely be buying two of those on my way to the in-laws house if that is the case!! You'll have to check the online sale bill for your local store, OR call them to see if they will have them. Even if they don't have them on sale I have known other Bass Pro Shops outlets to honor other sale bills at other locations. The sale bill I am looking at is at the Clarksville, IN store. Here is a link to the sale bill. Clarksville,IN Sale Bill I told the wife I didn't care if they were Pink, because that is a steal! ;D She said that if they were PINK then SHE would be buying 3 or 4 of them. Fortunately they are a blueish purple color.
  20. I tend to prefer BPS signature stuff over Cabelas. I love the BPS Pro Qualifiers, and own several of them. The only problem is that the rods alone cost $120 not on sale. I've found them to be just as good as any other brand out there for the money. I love the BPS Extreme series rods and baitcasters. I own 5 of the casting rods in various lengths and actions. The $99 BPS Extreme baitcaster combo is my #1 rod/reel combo for the money. I have a 'NEW' BPS Extreme real in the trading forum for sale if you are interested. By the way ..... if you are a budget angler, and are looking for deal. BPS has their Pro Qualifier Limited Edition series combos on sale from 11/22 to 11/25. You won't find a better deal than $70 for this combo. The rod alone usually sells for $120, and the reel sells for $100. The only thing 'Limited' about these are the graphics jobs on them, and the 10 bearing reel instead of the 6 bearing reel. These are a definite steal, and I'm going to be there Thanksgiving morning for their 5 hour sale to buy 3 or 4. It's a store only deal, so you won't be able to get them online. I spoke to the person at the BPS near me today, and he said they are only getting around 60 of them in. So, they'll go fast.
  21. Does anyone have one of these? I saw that they are on sale Black Friday for $70, and was going to pick a few up. 10 bearing reel and IM-8 rod. I don't think you can go wrong with that price. Anyone else?
  22. I only use Spiderwire in heavy cover. The fish can see the line, and it can spook them if you aren't careful. In stained water I like to use a moss green or smoke color. In crystal clear I use a fluorocarbon or lighter gauge mono. If I use mono I fish with the lightest line I can get away with. I mostly stick to 8 lb. mono when I'm fishing clear. That's why I like the Fluorocarbon. I can get away with fishing a 12 to 17lb. test, and the fish can't see it.
  23. I think I might try a custom paint job in that color and sell it on ebay... ;D The only problem with that is that collectors can tell a knock off when they see it. Even if you did fool them on Ebay when they got it in hand they'd end up wanting their money back, because they'd notice it was a fraud.
  24. Take it back. They should replace the whole reel.
  25. What? : I'm just going by what I hear locally. I catch a lot of flack for buying stuff from Wal-Mart. Most of the guys in my lodge only shop Gander Mountain or BPS. They laugh at me when I say I went to Wal-Mart to pick up baits.
