Scents
I have a lot of luck with the YUM Baitfish Scent. SOmetimes I also dip the tail of my plastics in Spike-It Dip n' Glow. Both are proven scents for me.

Is It Just Me???
I'll agree with you on that one. A local family decorates for every holiday celebrated in the U.S. I mean they go all out for Valentines Day on through Christmas. This year they skipped the Thanksgiving decorations all together, and are on Christmas. :-? Also, if retailers are so worried about not making the money this year ........ have more sales worth talking about! I mean a 'One Day Only 10% off sale' is hardly a sale to have. More people are going to discount online retailers who sell the exact same stuff at a lower price.

Help me Organize my plastics!
I need help organizing my plastics. I counted 93 bags on worms tonight that I now keep in a BPS Stalker bag. I'd like to keep them all in their original packages, and I'd like to have them in an orderly fashion, but don't know how to get them that way. For example, I don't like mixing my 5" Yum Dingers in with my 10" Culprit worms. I want to me able to find stuff when I go to look for it instead of having to sort through a whole tackle bag full of worms. Any ideas?

BPS open on Thanksgiving Day
Companies are more interested in maximizing profits. I think it's sad to say the least.

Is It Just Me???
Is it just me or did we just skip Thanksgiving this year? Everywhere I go I see Christmas decorations, and Christmas 'jargon' on sale. It's almost like we just decided to skip Thanksgiving this year, and go straight for the good stuff. I heard somewhere that they decided to start advertising 3 weeks earlier this year to give people more time to shop. : A pretty clever marketing ploy, but if we have more time to shop .... won't we buy twice as much? ;D I just think it's pitiful that we skipped Thanksgiving celebrations this year, and are already looking to Christmas without appreciating the meaning of Thanksgiving. What do you think?

Energy saving bulb safety concerns
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mercury isn't AS hazardous or volatile as most people make it out to be. Thousands of these bulbs get dumped into landfills each year locally, and I test the waterways within a 1 mile radius of the dump. Mercury has never showed up in the 3 years I have been doing this. You are more likely to get lead poisoning from handling fishing weights than you are to come to harm from a light bulb containing mercury.

Beowulf
It's a good story, but I hate to disagree with you. Angelina Jolie is an average actress in my opinion. I can't think of anything in the past 5 years she has been in that I really liked. I think the only reason she is still in movies is because of the 'Eye Candy' factor. It should still be a good movie though. I think Jessica Biel is a better all around actress, and she doesn't have to flaunt fake lips. ;D

Low-Pro vs. Round
I use the LPs for Bass fishing, and the regular round reels for Catfishing. I love my Low Profile reels, but I also like the larger reels, because I think they're more of a Heavy Duty reel for 15+ pound catfish.

Light Reel to Put on a Carrot Stick
Pinnacle Solene 7.8 ounces, 7 bearing, and it's around $50. Most Wal-Marts sell them, and they are excellent reels. You usually have to get them out of the reel case. A lot of 'Bait Snobs' don't like Wal-Mart for equipment, but these reels are 'Cherry' for the price! Wal-Mart carries some decent reels. They carry the ABU Garcia Revo, a few Shimano Citicas, and Pinnacle reels.

What's Wrong with this picture? Can of Worms
Not to mention the fact that they are trying to medicate kids at an earlier age now. Did you know there is an average 40% of ALL elementary school children diagnosed with ADHD every year? That's scarry. Do you know what the answer is for these children they diagnose? Ritalin a.k.a. Methylphenidate a very close chemical match to Methamphetamine a.k.a. Crank, crystal meth, meth, etc .... I'm sorry, but I would never want my child taking a legalized form of crystal meth for a problem that I would just see as a hyper active child. They are finding out now that teen-agers that started taking it at an early age are forming heart related illnesses such as enlarged hearts, high blood pressure, etc ... This country is Hell Bent on medicating for anything and everything. The thing that gets me is that instead of coming up with a cure, they spend more money on treating the present illness. They will probably never come up with a cure for cancer or diabetes, just because there is too much money tied up in treating it. Imagine if all the cancer centers in the world shut down because they found a cure. : It'll never happen.

What's Wrong with this picture? Can of Worms
I will have to disagree with you on that one! There is no 'rationing' of services in Canada. If you get sick you go to the doctor. Simple as that. There is no long wait other than what we wait here in the US .... simply because out doctors double book patients to maximize profits. Ever been to the doctor and he leaves the room for a second to have the nurse do something for you? He's off talking to another patient, and filling their needs at the same time. Ever wonder why you have to wait 20 minutes to get into the appointment you had scheduled for 20 minutes earlier? It's because he's taking care of the 3 patients he booked at 1:30 while he scheduled you at 2. You're wrong there. We have several friends in Canada who tell us the absolute horror of the universal healthcare system there. You might think that you can walk in and walk out, but this is an absolute myth. They said that if you have to have a minor operation, you have to wait almost 6 months, and if you have a major surgery, you're considered lucky if you get it in the same year, it's that bad. I find that hard to believe. As a matter of fact the guy that I spoke of earlier who lives in Canada has had 2 operations in the past year, and his mother has had cancer surgery. All of them took place within less than 2 months of finding out they needed the surgeries. One of them was his gall bladder, and it was removed within 2 weeks. A recent study showed that 70% of Americans worried about having something go wrong in their lives related to their health 50% of the time! What does that cause us to do??? Buy more insurance. We are in an endless cycle of fear and worry. We worry about getting sick, and not being able to pay for it, so we buy more insurance. Sure, it works for some people, but those are the people who work somewhere to pay for their insurance. You know how many people stay at a job for the insurance alone. So, basically their quality of a job is based on the kind of insurance it offers. I don't have the luxury of having my company pay for my insurance. I work on a 1044 basis, so I buy it myself. It's a good thing I make decent money, because a family of 4 pays $3540 a month in health care for a perfectly healthy family. We actually got one of the better rates. :

When I was in the Corps I never had to wait, never had to go through the payment process, and never had to deal with deductibles and copays. It works for them in that aspect of the government. Why not everywhere else? It's because Nixon imposed privatized healthcare for profit during his administration. Who is one of the largest contributors to US Congressmen and Senators? The big 3 pharmaceutical companies in the US. They come only second to Big Oil! One of Pfizer's major research and development facilities is in England!

What's Wrong with this picture? Can of Worms
I can't believe it, but it's finally happened to me. My prescription drug coverage has been reduced by the company ... namely HUMANA ... for no apparent reason. I have to spend the exact same every month for the plan, but I now have to pay $60 a piece for any name brand drugs I get. I'm not on anything on a regular basis other than a few prescribed allergy medicines when the season hits, but it still bugs me to no end. I have to pay them for what??? I can actually get the drugs cheaper if I shop at a smaller pharmacy than what I have to pay for their 'preferred list' medications. I have a buddy in Canada who has everything covered. He doesn't pay a penny for healthcare, and he can get any medications he needs for free! What's wrong with us here in the US? Why can't we divert some of the TRILLIONS of dollars we are spending on the war in Iraq towards more of a socialized health system? I know some people have been BRAINWASHED by the system into believing socialized health care is one step closer to a Socialist State, but that's not true. Look at England, France, Germany, and Canada. They are no where near being a Socialist State, and there people are 75% healthier than we are. We are supposedly the 2nd richest country in the world, and we can't take care of our own. What's wrong with this picture?

cost of running a bass boat
I have a 21' Skeeter w/ a 200hp Evinrude, and I can't even begin to tell you how much money I waste a year on fuel/oil. I'll break it down for you. -------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Gallon of Evinrude XD-100 2 Cycle Oil = $30 1 Gallon of 89 Octane Gas = $3 1- 32 oz. bottle of Lower Unit Oil = $10 1 can of Evinrude Engine Tuner = $16 ------------------------------------------------------------- My boat holds 41 gallons of fuel at $3 a gallon. I spend $123 to fill her up, and that usually last me 2 days of fishing. My oil tank holds 3 gallons of oil at $30 a gallon. I spend $90 on oil for 5 trips on average. I change my lower unit oil every 50 hours, which equals out to once a month at $10 a bottle. I use one can of Evinrude Engine tuner and decarb my engine twice a season at $32 a season. So in a Summer I usually spend ..... $6150 in Fuel, $4500 in oil, and around $122 on other stuff. Bass boats aren't for the people who can't afford them. I had no idea when I first started boating. Also, my engine is in pristine condition, and I only get around 2 miles per gallon on a Good Day!!! Then again the money is worth it when you're flying down the lake or river going 75 mph!!! You get to your next fishing spot in 3 minutes flat, or you're hauling it up river to the next lock because the Stripes are runnin'. I consider it money well wasted! I need that kind of power on Kentucky Lake, because sometimes I'm running from Kentucky d**n Village to Kenlake resort area in a 15 minute period. On the top end of the lake it might be rainy and cloudy, but on the bottom end it might be clear and sunny. You need that kind of power to haul that distance in any reasonable time. If I were just fishing small lakes like Lake Malone I would stick to a 115 or 150, but not when I'm on the bigger lakes like Sam Raburn, Kentucky Lake, Lake of the Ozarks, or Patoka Lake.

BPS in Owensboro, KY
I spoke to the developer this morning, and he said they are looking at some new development property in the Gateway Commons area. He said that the only downside of the deal is that BPS wants you to GIVE them the property. Literally!!! But the upside of the deal is that they would boost the property values around the area bringing in other businesses. This would also include the value of homes. He said homes that are developed within a 4 mile radius of BPS are automatically valued $20k higher on the next PVA report just as it would being built closer to an arena or stadium. So, even though BPS hasn't released any official plans in the area we are definitely in their sites. Development would begin early to mid 2009.

Good deals for Bass Pro opening?
I've been to 2 Grand Openings, and they usually keep bins full of discounted items. It could be anything from Zoom plastics for $1.99 to Bandit crankbaits for $2.99. They get picked over quick, so you almost have to be the first few people in the door.

Standard new rod and reel procedures
Naptha ??? :-? Whooohoo that's some strong stuff. I usually use RemOil to clean all of the old grease off, and reoil and grease with Ardent reel butter or Ardent reel oil.

IN SEARCH OF VALUE AND NOT NAMES
Sorry ... didn't read the criteria. Marked off the Johnny Morris Elite combo, and added the Pro Qualifier.

IN SEARCH OF VALUE AND NOT NAMES
I will list my favorites in order per the criteria given. 1) BPS Pro Qualifier spinning combo with 6'6" Medium to Medium Heavy rod and Pro Qualifier PQ4000B reel .... $120 I love this outfit, and it's what I started seriously fishing on for a spinning combo. You can't beat the Pro Qualifier rods, in my book, for the money, and the reels can handle anything you throw at them. Of course the 'Mag Spool' technology helps with line twist, and the combo is a steal at $120 for the rod alone. You get the reel for *FREE* with the combo. Durable, diverse, and they last for years with care and maintenance. I mainly use this outfit for spinnerbaits and buzz baits. 2) BPS Extreme Baitcaster w/ High Speed retrieve on a 6'6"MH Extreme rod. ..... $99 on sale This reel is extremely versatile, and you really get a lot of 'Bang for the Buck'. Casts are long, and retrieves are fast and smooth. The gears really showed me a lot of how they were made when I was fighting Stripers back in August. I pulled in several big fish, and the reel cut through them like butter. No problems at all with reeling. The rod is rated at 'Good' simply for durability and weight. They aren't the most sensitive rods in the bunch, but for the combo price you can't beat them. 3) Abu Garcia Spinning reel on a 7" BPS Graphite Series spinning rod .... $50 Since I'm mostly big on Baitcasters I don't want to have to spend too much on a spinning combo that I will use for 1/4 lures or less. The Abu Garcia Cardinal 104 is only around $30 at most Wal-Mart locations, and the rods for $20 at BPS are a good 'Entry Level' buy, or for someone who doesn't want High Dollar spinning combos. The rod has been put through some abuse with getting light plastics pulled out of brush piles, and accidentally getting stepped on a time or two in the boat .... Oops. I could bend the rod in almost a complete question mark, and it would still hold true while still being able to feel the bites fairly well. The reel is very smooth, and has been put through several rain storms without any problems with the retrieve. Most other spinning combos I have owned, including the BPS Pro Qualifiers, all had some squealing in the spool after a few heavy rains, but not the Abu Garcia Cardinal. There is a summary of the rods I've used most recently. I've tried to put something in there for every price range, and even though I have quite a few more setups these were my 'Go to' setups for the price indicated this past summer. Hope I helped.

Pinnacle Reels.
I got it straight from the "Horse's Mouth", so to speak, and Pinnacle Does Not make BPS reels. They did several years ago, but BPS now sources their reel contracts out to various companies, and none of them are Pinnacle. This came from the head of Contractor sales at Silstar / Pinnacle, and the same thing was told to me at BPS from their design department. So, don't just take my word for it. Give Pinnacle a call at 803-794-8521, and worm your way through their transfers until you get the right person. Next call BPS at 417-873-5000. By the way .... both company reps laughed when I mentioned a 'secretive trade agreement'. On another note, I did pick up a Pinnacle Sentara II, and I really love it. The reel I really want, the new pinnacle Vision XLT, won't be available until January. That baby has 13 ball bearings, and is priced under $120 by companies other than the Pinnacle website.

Still Having MORE problems with Bass Pro Shops!!!
Don't know if I told you or not, *, but I got those plastics and they are AWESOME. Thanks for the deal. I'll fish them in the Spring, and find my favorites.
