  1. Excellent baits for the money. I'm thinking of trying some of their 'real skin' line this coming Spring. They're supposed to be a hot item for 2008. You can't go wrong with a Lucky Craft lure. Any of them .... well ... other than the Stacy King branded version at BPS .... will catch fish. I wouldn't recommend the Stacy King version. I've heard some bad things about them. Heard is the key word. I don't have any experience with them personally, so I can't say for sure.
  2. Looks like a melanism, or abnormal deposits of melanin in the skin. This could be caused by diet, or it could be genetic. It's impossible to tell unless you could trace the bloodline.
  3. A couple of my buddies and I were sitting around the lodge tonight and an interesting question came up. If a Bass swallows your bait, hook and all, do you .... A) Throw it back in anyway! ---OR--- Keep it, and cook him up! I thought about it, and I've never had a fish swallow my bait to the point that I couldn't recover it. In this instance where I couldn't find my hook I would have to keep the fish, and give him an honorable and humane death. I would have to kill him quick, and fry him up at the next fish fry. I personally don't see any need to 'Catch & Release' a fish that has a 4/0 hook somewhere in his gut. The fish is going to starve to death, and suffer horribly in the process. That's my opinion, but what do you all think? What's the consensus? Keep it or throw it back?
  4. I think it's ok to put brush piles where you see fit. Although, I prefer the PVC versions of cover. Many a lure have been snagged on an old potato sack or cinder block someone dropped with cover attached. Have you ever tried getting a $20 Megabass lure out of a potato sack? ;D Good luck with that!!! I prefer the PVC versions, but will fish the others if I see an advantage. I think strip pits can be improved by brush piles. I wouldn't hesitate to drop a few in.
  5. I'd like to have a TD Zillion, but I won't be upset if I don't get it. Santa has already done most of the shopping this year, and I suspect She got me some other things I'll enjoy just as much! After all ... it's all about the kids this time of year. Us adults have already had our fun. It's just as fun in watching them open their gifts.
  6. Same here. I wouldn't go under 7', and a Heavy action on the rod. I'd use a minimum 20 lb. braid, and a baitcast reel. You want a line that you will be able to horse the fish out of the tangles when they get caught up in the roots and tuners on lilypads and thick cover in general.
  7. The sad thing is that it probably cost the seller $2.50 when it was new! ;D
  8. It always makes it better when you have someone to brag to. ;D If I ever feel like I'm getting burned out I take a kid fishing. There's nothing like watching a kid catch a 4" Bluegill to put a smile on your face. Watching them is half the fun. ;D
  9. Karma always plays out in the end. Always do the honest thing. Even if it hurts. I would have called them, and told them about the mix up. Some poor guy is probably going to get a hassle over the combo you were supposed to get. Just because it will benefit you in the end doesn't make it right! Someone will have to pay for that club. Be it the company or whomever. Honest money never makes you feel like you have to ask questions if it is right or not! If you have to ask or get reassurance then it probably isn't the honest thing to do.
  10. I know what you mean! I keep thinking about all the fun I've had the past few summers, and I can't wait for it to come around again. It puts a whole new meaning to the phrase 'Cabin Fever'.
  11. You may run a cross a few of those from time to time. They're probably infected by the Largemouth Bass Virus that kills adult populations. Not all adults catch it, and it is mainly transmitted by poor water quality. I know Tennessee has a few lakes that have been on the watch list, but you might want to check into it.
  12. No Kidding!!! That's why I don't swim anywhere I'm at the bottom of the food chain! I was in Cocoa Beach 5 years ago, and saw a kid get pulled out of the water after a Bull Shark attack. He had the meat stripped from his arm from the elbow down. I don't swim in rivers either! Not after learning that a unique feature of bull sharks is their ability to live in both salt and fresh water. They have attacked people in Lake Nicaragua in Central America, and have been seen above St. Louis, Missouri in the Mississippi River. Those born in the Mississippi delta usually spend about six months in the brackish water before migrating along the coast to Florida to winter in the Keys.
  13. Give me a call. I'll send you my phone number via Personal Message on here.
  14. You can fish Little Hurricane boat docks, from the barge outlet at Owensboro Grain, and then there is the Pump Out at OMU. You can also fish the Indiana side of the river in case you didn't know that. There are all kinds of access points on the Ohio River from the Indiana side. I can tell you how to get to them if you are interested. Kentucky shares the Indiana side of the Ohio, and you can fish it with a KY License.
  15. I live in Owensboro. I fish from a 20ft. Skeeter with an Evinrude 200hp outboard. I fish mainly Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, Lake Malone, and the Ohio River.
  16. Go over to iboats.com forums. Those guys over there are right on the money when it comes to stuff like this.
  17. Never had 'em, and I'll tell you why. My Granddad and Dad both had them in their late 20's, and I remember my Dad going through that when I was a kid. At the time there wasn't a whole lot they could do. One of my younger brothers got 2 when he was in his mid 20's as well. I promised myself I would do anything and everything I could never to get them. So, I drink at least 3 bottles of water a day, stay away from cola colored drinks, drink a V8 every morning, and eat asparagus once a week. Asparagus cleans out the kidneys!
  18. I think it is 9.75% in Nashville. The problem lies when the state is a flat tax state. The state tax might be 7%, but each county can charge an additional tax on top of that! I think Nashville's tax is 2.5% to 2.75%. So, to sum it up in Nashville you will pay between 9.5% to 9.75%! :o I'm glad I don't live in a Flat Tax state!
  19. So if I go into a store and buy a shirt I'm gonna pay 9% tax on it??? I Might have to revamp my plans, and head for Indiana. Their tax is 6% like it is here in Kentucky. If I decided to buy a $200 rod at BPS I'd pay $18 in tax. :o
  20. Sawed the motor off???? I find it hard to believe no one heard the saw going to town on an aluminum boat! Homeowner's insurance should cover it even if it was 10 ft. off the property line. Just curious as to why the boat insurance won't cover it. WOuldn't be Progressive by chance .... would it? I'm beginning to think Boat Insurance is a scam! I had stuff stolen out of my boat, and they wouldn't cover it, and it was parked 10 feet from my kitchen window.
  21. I'm going down to the Opry Mills Mall next weekend in Nashville, and my wife's excited to say the least. Her sister, a virtual know-it-all, said she doesn't shop in Tennessee because the sales tax is close to 9% at most retail stores. Of course the wife is concerned now that she 'found' this out! > Is she full of it? I really want to tell her to kiss off, but I don't know what the sales tax in Tennessee is, so I can't back it up with fact.
  22. I would fish the drop-offs on the main channel. Definitely a challenge if you don't have good electronics. At those temps you will definitely have to get them to strike instinctively. It may take up to 10 casts in the same spot to get them to even strike. I would try a jig, and if that didn't work I'd throw a few 'flashy' deep divers. You really just have to experiment to see what they want.
  23. Pinnacle Sentara II - $69, Pinnacle Inertia - $49, Abu Garcia Revo S - $99, BPS Rick Clunn Signature Series - $79, or BPS Extreme Reel in High Speed retrieve - $64.99. Those would be my choices.
  24. Any chances of getting you all here in Kentucky in the upcoming years? It would be a lot closer for some of the Northern members on the board. Kentucky Lake is has 2,380 miles of shoreline and 160,000 acres of water. I spent a lot of time at Guntersville when I was at Auburn. Did a lot of research & studies there with the Fisheries Biologists. They are a decent fishery, and you guys should have fun. I'd like to go, but my local lodge outing is the week after that. We're going to be hitting Kentucky Lake / Lake Barkley for the Spawn. Have fun.
  25. I have a Skeeter Fish n' Ski that I plan on storing outside this winter due to the unavailability of space in my garage. The wife says one boat in the garage is enough, and my Nitro takes up the garage. So, I want to make a PVC Support system to fit underneath my regular cover that will support the cover, and a loose tarp for the winter months. I already have some support poles, but they aren't sturdy enough to hold the weight of the cover and a tarp, so I need some minds more geared towards engineering than my own. Here is a pic of the layout of my boat. Thanks for the help.
