  1. I just bought an American Rodsmiths crankin rod and want a reel to top it off with. What gear ratio is the best for an all around crankbait reel? I will be throwing mostly small to medium size baits if that helps? I have never really fished with crankbaits but want to start and would like to get the right equipment the first time. thanks for any help robbie
  2. Has anyone used or heard anything on these reels yet? I saw it in B/M magazine (ad) I am thinking about getting one but thought i would ask you all first. thanks in advance for any help. robbie
  3. i just got my order of magic swimmers in and have a question about the bait that is 3 1/2 inches long. it seems REALLY light and feels like it will be hard to throw very far on a baitcast rig? are most people throwing that size on a spincast rig ???? thanks robbie
  4. thats great! i love seeing stories like this where kids break a record or win a derby etc. it let other kids see there is more than just drugs, gameboys and a pc to enjoy life. sorry to get on my soap box. staying on the water kept me out of a ton of trouble as a kid and i would just like to see more kids start fishin. congrats on the fish!!!
  5. lmao roadwarrior!! raul i bought a 5 gallon bucket of auger tails at a garage sale years ago. it even had some 10in augers in it that i had never seen. the bucket is now half full. (or is it half empty) ha robbie
  6. yes it was strike king. the bait is about 5 inches long. 1 inch wide at the top and tapers down to about 1/4 inch. it kinda resembles a huge slug. the action is still unreal and i think what makes it different from similar baits (flukes,senkos,slug-o's etc) is its fall rate. it takes a lot of patience to fish correctly. robbie
  7. i use that color on almost every lake i fish in oklahoma with usually good results. robbie
  8. what lure do you STILL use that is considered old/outdated or rarely fished by others that still catches fish???? Mine- The Pork-O years after this was considered dead and gone a buddy and i went to lake fork in march to fish with a guide for 2 days. the weather was bad to say the least. we had to stop and break ice off of our rod guides several times to kinda give you an idea of the type of conditions we were fishing. nothing was working that our guide has us fishing with so i tried my "ol pork-o". in a matter of 30 minutes i had boated 3 fish weighing 4-6lbs . the buddy of mine that had made fun of me when i tied it on was now begging for one! another guide that was a friend of our guide came over to see (in his words) "what the hell we were fishin with". neither guide had even heard of pork-o's . i gave the other guide and his customers a can of them to try and we continued to kill the fish on them for 2 days. we met up with the other guys at the cafe that evening and they had done well too. our biggest fish was 8lbs but several in the 5-6lb range. a trip i will never forget! robbie
  9. i have seen them in several wal-mart stores here in oklahoma on clearence for 75 cents a bag. heck i thought they were gona stop making or something. i bought a bunch but have not used any yet. robbie
  10. Harts " Shocker Tubes " with them long ole tails! best action of any tubes out there.
  11. im gona say the rage tail shad. i think people are going to find other ways to fish it as i have than just on top.
  12. wow that berkley looks really close to it. has anyone tried the berkleys??
  13. lt. scrap if i were only 3 hours from fork i would not care what other lakes existed!
  14. thanks for the info bud! just got my order placed. thats kinda wild yamamoto baits that cheap. i had seen that bargin cave link but never clicked on it because i never thought things would be that cheap. robbie
  15. I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS?? #1) where in Gods name are you fishing that BIG thing for bass!!?? #2) CAN I GO WITH YOU!!??
  16. i currently own one of the first old digital rapala scales. it still works great but it only weigh's up to a 9 or 10lb fish. i would like to get one that will go up to 30lbs so i can use it for cats and striper. i am looking at the "boga grip" and a few others. im not needing it for tourament use so it does not have to have the memory etc. i just want a durable and accurate scale. any help, ideas, pros, cons would be much appreciated. robbie
  17. thanks. i appreciate you going into detail about that. just got back from bps here in oklahoma city and they dont sell it there anymore. i bought some 10# seaguar inviz x to try until i get some of the yozuri. robbie
  18. can you tell me why? just curious for future reference. will the 12# have problems with line twist, poor action ???????? so far i love fluoro on my bc reels. thanks. btw, what movie is your avatar from? robbie
  19. im just starting to try my hand with drop shot/shaky head rigs. today i went to bps and bought a shimano saros 3000f reel and a shimano crucial 7'2 med action rod. im just wondering what type/size line most of you use for this kind of fishing? i was about to put bps xps 12# fluorocarbon on it and thought i should ask here first. thank you for any help. robbie
  20. thank you men for your help. one last question... what weight shaky head do you use the most. im sure wind plays a factor in it but on the average which size do you use the most? thanks again robbie
  21. i have sorta been out of the "bass" scene for the past 3-4 years due to the fact that while bass fishing one day on lake texoma we ran into a school of stripers surfacing and i absolutly fell in love with fishing for them every since. with gas prices the way they are im going to have to start fishing lakes closer to home so im kinda catching up on all the new bass stuff out there so im sorry if this seems like a dumb question. my question - is a "drop shot rig" pretty much the same as a "shaky head" rig?? if not, what is the difference? thanks for your help robbie
  22. i know these baits have been talked about a ton on here but yesterday i got the chance to fish the Ragetail Shad for the first time. one word "AWESOME" ! the action is unreal! the weather was not the best and this is not true "topwater" season here, so i didn't catch any fish on it. i think without a doubt of the new baits this year, this one is the "must have" in your tackle bag out of them all. just my 2 cents robbie
  23. how much do these cost? (swans) they are pretty sharp but will they out perform my "strike kings" from wally world ?? ;D
  24. Im Lost ??? :-?
  25. that is just what i said!!!
