#1 Rage Tail Shad

  • Super User

You want my moneyhounds?

They always sat nose down and would go under the water. I have tried 5/0-7/0 hooks (hoping to add more weight to the tail) and only had one Pike blow up on it. I really wanted to like this bait as I love walking the dog and fishing jungles, but it just didn't work for me.

I also was very excited about the moneyhounds until I fished them for the first time. Always sitting awkwardly and rolling all over the place. I threw mine out during the next offseason cleaning.

I like all the top water rage products. The shad is my favorite followed by the toad and then the eeliminator. I also like to fish the smokin rooster as a top water when I want something very subtle.

#2 Zman elaztech hard leg frogs. Because they float.

IF, Rage Shads or Toads floated....it would be lights out...

They are more about the retrieve it seems to me.

I fish Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge in Southwest Louisiana, it's a shallow marsh only a couple feet deep. My favorite technique is reeling a 10" Rage Tail Anaconda on top!

ZOOM Horny Toad is killer for me. I was really interested in trying the YUM Money hound since they are $1.99 at the local retailer, but I guess they are on clearance for a reason, lol.

I too was disappointed in the money hounds. Great idea but certifiably needs some refinement.

I really like the ability to pause it without it sinking and just twitch it right where you think a fish is.. to me, theres no downside to them being made in elaztech

I have a few packs of these, but haven't used them much. Care to share how you use them and how you hook them up?

What type of hook do you fish the Rage Shad's?

Mike

This link shows the hooking instructions... 5/0 EWG heavy wire hook great or a screw lock swimbait hook like an 1/8 or 1/4 - 5/0 Moaner weighted Stroker for super long cast or wind conditions. This bait surfaces easily even with a weighted hook. Braid is my choice and when the fish hits, drop the rod tip while continuing to reel up slack, feel the fish and swing for the fence. Try not to over cast or whip the rod tip too aggressively on the cast because it will cause the big tail to start tearing in the bend.

Hope that helps and have fun!

Yes. I have used them and had a few hits and one very nice one. I've got gigantor Gammy hooks and have yet to firmly stick a fish.
