So when does everyone start fishing in SNY?

Martin , i have been wicked busy... give my a few hours/days ,  i will post you up some of my Nashua river ideas.

Hey Martin I spend most of my fishing time out on the Nashua and I'll echo what Nev has said before- it has a ton of large bass moving around in it. Off the top of my head I'd suggest if you could launch from Mine falls/stellos stadium and head upstream from there you could target a very large fallen tree that's been there for ever. It's just to the left of the main channel and it sits at the end of a long flat that is stacked with fish come spawn/post spawn. If you like spawn time fishing, keep moving upstream from the large tree lay down and target the shallow coves as you head to and by Tilton St. Launch.  There is at least 3 on the right side heading upstream that you'll see before you get to a memorial marker located on a small island before the channel splits again. Not sure what type of boat you got, but on a kayak these places are very hot when they're hot. Just those places/section of the river could keep you busy for a season by itself but you can always head upstream toward the golf course and explore some of the arms that head off the main channel. This time of year can be either rough or super rewarding , but it all boils down to getting on the bass, and the season plus it's a river and is different in a lot of ways to lake/pond lmb fishing so it can present some fun challenges. I am actually working on a very detailed map of the the Nashua River that I hope to post soon, just compiling my data from the past few years and adding in some new structure that has found it's way onto the Nashua this year. Thursday Nashua River, fished below Tilton St. Launch to the dam and back. Got 2 lmb, both on strike king jerk bait in natural shad. Very windy. Weekend looks promising

Has anyone ever fished Lake Horace in Weare? Or Clough state park (Everett lake)

No but it is on my top 10 list to get to this year.   I hear there’s some decent fish in there

Are any of the ponds/lakes ice free in Southern NH ? I’m stuck up in the endless winter of VT

I'd guess everything south east of concord is. All my ponds in the Manchester area are open and have been for about 10 days or so

Yeah, redmexican5081 is right.  Most stuff is free of ice south of Concord.  I think Stumpfield is free as well.

MODIS. It starts out really wide showing most of the country but you can zoom in quite a bit. I opened this on my PC so I can zoom waaaaay in as needed. I also change the default settings to 'False Color' at the top so it's easier to see ice vs open water. http://ge.ssec.wisc.edu/modis-today/

Caught some nice pre-spawn largies on a crankbait yesterday. All were caught very shallow. 

Well I'm not in southern NH but I had some success in southern VT this weekend. Three bass chased my spinnerbait hard and I landed one (one missed my hook and the other was right after I hooked the one I got).

 

I would imagine they're starting to chase.

Haven't caught a ton of fish but the ones I caught were quality.All topwater.First fish of the year was a new PB at 6-6.

Those are some beauties.  Sure is dark in those pictures.  Seems like night time is already producing some quality fish.

Night bite came early this year.Basically only time I can get out.

Hey Everyone, 

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to the forum. I'm pretty new to the region as far as fishing goes, so I've come here to get some local knowledge. I have a bit of experience fishing for largemouth in the midwest, but none with the smallies so I'm interested in finding places to fish for those. I'll hunt through the forums, but if anyone wants to drop some suggestions for southern NH, that'd be great to hear.

I've been thinking the same thing.  I'm new to fishing and for the life of me I can't get anyone to tell me exactly where to go to catch fish.  Mostly folks will just name bodies of water, like "Merrimack River".  Well the river is 3000 miles long and it's not exactly self-evident where a person on foot might be able to access the shore and fish comfortably.

 

I've mostly been forced to just go exploring and so far I've found the following spots that seem reasonable, but would really like more intel if possible.

 

1) Naticook Lake, Merrimack NH - I've fished from obvious/visible openings along the shoreline near the boat launch behind veteran's park.  I've had more success fishing this lake from the beach at Wasserman park.

 

2) The bridge on Tinker Road in Merrimack.  Right near a 4-way intersection there is a bridge across the Pennichuck brook (I think?).  Roadside parking available and fishing is possible on both sides of the bridge.

 

3) Horseshoe pond Merrimack - There is a boat launch on Island road with lots of room to fish.

 

4) Mines Falls Park Nashua.  There is an extensive network of trails and much of them are adjacent to water.  I could use some more intel for this place as it's not exactly clear to me which areas of this park might be best.  I'm also not sure what kind of fish are in these waters, or what bait to use.  I did get some nibbles on a worm while fishing in the waters just to the west of "Purple-25"

 

5) Some fishing App I have suggested "honey pot pond" in Amherst.  However, I went on a reconnaissance mission and couldn't find a spot where a member of the public could access the shore.  Please advise.

 

6) I did find something called "little honey pot pond" nearby.  I found a place to park next to a small opening in the shoreline brush.  Google earth has it at 5 waterview drive Amherst.

 

7) There is a canoe-launch area along the soughegan river just past Soughegan high School on Boston Post Road.  Has anyone caught anything here?

I know this is just a general idea again but the NHFG website has a map showing locations.  If you click on the symbols when you are at a place you might want to check out, it gives the type of ramp, restrictions, GPS location, etc. and also gives you a link to the depth map of the lake/pond if one is available on their site.  The depth map also lists the fish species you would expect to find in the body of water.

2) The bridge on Tinker Road in Merrimack.  Right near a 4-way intersection there is a bridge across the Pennichuck brook (I think?).  Roadside parking available and fishing is possible on both sides of the bridge. ------------- fish the weeds on both sides of the bridge ,  white weedless frogs , fish odd ball stuff that the fish will not normally see

 

3) Horseshoe pond Merrimack - There is a boat launch on Island road with lots of room to fish.   ------- ------ great fishery, gotta learn its in and outs.  excellent canoe kayak place.  fish all of it.  there are some nice drops and holes

 

4) Mines Falls Park Nashua.  There is an extensive network of trails and much of them are adjacent to water.  I could use some more intel for this place as it's not exactly clear to me which areas of this park might be best.  I'm also not sure what kind of fish are in these waters, or what bait to use.  I did get some nibbles on a worm while fishing in the waters just to the west of "Purple-25"    -------------- fish all of it that you can,,,, lots of water takes time to learn it.  this place is also a great fishery but you gotta put in the time....  it is huge area .. alot of people say to fish the hollis end...  i find fish everywhere , lots of weeds lots of structure.   ( more largemouth than smallmouth)

 

2nd launch for Nashua river off of broad st gives some access to some fishing also

Baboosic lake.... carry in but i forget where the carry launch is ,

 

Round pond Nashua ---- gets hammered with people -- but holds a few nice fish

 

Stump Pond behind Joes diner in Amherst  .... big pickerel , i put in a couple trips here every year,  always worth my time.  gets filled with weeds and  PARTS of it partially dry up. The pickerel are surviving and so are the bait fish. 

 

Nashua river off of front st / franklin st has canoe/kayak launch to give access to the river.   Gets you from Jackson falls area almost all the way back to the bottom of the dam where it falls from stellos ---- (more smallmouth than largemouth)

 

Lovewell pond off of main dunstable rd ,  some fishing areas , excellent place to catch black crappie and lots of them.  watch for snakes ,,,,  non poisonous water snakes.    --- there are no know snakes in NH other than Eastern rattle snakes that are poisonous..  but they can still bite you

 

Bass pond near lovewell pond --- i have no info for you , never fished it

 

Paddle witches brook in Amherst into 3rd pennichuck pond ---  most of the pennichuck is off limits to fishing and being in the woods ,,,,, no boats are allowed in the pennichuck water supply.  

 

Merrimack river --- fish the area where the Nashua dumps into the Merrimack ---- very rocky area 

 

Sandy pond off of lake st --- 75% is fishable from shore ---- the other 25% is fishable if you are a resident of the pine st housing facility or know someone who is and will fish with you.   100% fishable with a canoe/yak

 

Get a Clarks fishing NH book. --- AVAILABLE AT MANY PLACES.
