Shallow shad rap

Featured Replies

I know these have been around awhile and they look good for waking or shallow over weeds. They come in many sizes including the "super" at 5.5 inches. Anyone use them or have any info.

They are great lures. I like them best along weedlines early morning or late evening. I like to use a long sweep, short pause retrieve. The pause is when most hits happen. Baby bass, bluegill and shad are the colors I use. They are also good for trolling walleyes. You might also want to try the xrap shad shallow.

One of my most productive shallow crankbaits. My most productive colors are, Shad, Silver, and Purpledescent.

I use the #7 a lot when I'm cranking the appropriate depths. They're great and no less effective in their depth than the deep-diving models.

You can take the larger sizes and drill a hole in the lip right in the center of the most forward part. Add a split ring to the hole and it wakes right on the surface with better action.

Great idea Randall, I have taken and shaved off the lowest portion of the lip, (the horizontal part) and it also wakes pretty good. Your idea may be easier.

Interesting, thanks for the tip @Randall.

I use the shallow shad rap very early in the year around here on very shallow lakes which, are the first to warm up.  Once the water is much above 60 degrees though, I generally put them back up in favor of a more traditional square bill.  they are affective at catching a variety of fish.

to get them to suspend I have been wrapping lead wire around the front hook.

Old thread I see but how shallow do these actually run?

I get mine to run about a foot if I keep my rod tip high.

Depends on tip position, line, speed and which size youre using.  The 5s struggle to get to 4' IME and dont stay there long since they are so light the casts are fairly short.  You can run the 5s pretty shallow.  You can run the 7s at a god clip in 2' of water.

I used them when I was a kid for schooling bass. There wasn't a better bait for it.

I still pull my Shallow Shad Raps out regularly - and the Jointed Shallow Shad Raps for a bit more action.
