Urchin Baits
I've been fishing mine on a shaky head and dragging it on the bottom. I've got a few fish on it but I wouldn't call it a confidence bait just yet.

Advice on choosing 3-5 5" Wacky worm colors
If I could only take 3 senko colors with me I would choose black/blu flake Green Pumpkin/blk flake and finally watermelon seed.

Anyone else not bother hollow body frogging?
The biggest fish I never caught was not caught on a Spro Bronzeye frog. I swear it would have went 9 if not ten. Drug it halfway to the boat before it threw my frog. I give up on them long ago. I can't catch much with them.

Fat free cranks?
My favorite flat sided crankbait is the Rapala OG slim. Comes in OG Tiny(4 feet), Slim 6, and the OG Deep Tiny 7. They are balsa baits which are almost a must have for the pressured water I fish.

The Jig Is Up
It would be a bladed jig for my biggest producer but I kinda don't count it in the jig category. It is more of a moving bait for me(same with swim jigs). The best jig jig for me is a flipping jig. A Dirty jigs, No Jack flippin jig(Usually in 1/2 oz.) with a Berkley max scent pit boss on the back

First catfish tournament.
Thanks. I watched a bunch of youtube videos on drift fishing and I think I get it. I feel fairly confident that I can wing it and at least find a few. Appreciate the help.

First catfish tournament.
A friend who runs a vet's charity here in Western North Carolina called me yesterday and is hosting a catfishing tournament. It will be next friday on Lake Hickory. I told him he could count me in as veterans charity work is exactly what I do. I have been on a few guided catfishing trips but other than that I have no clue what I am doing for catfish and it will be my first ever catfish tournament. I have the gear and I have the boat to do it but my knowledge is lacking. Anybody got any good tips to find them? I'm going to need all the help I can get! LOL Here's a pic of the biggest catfish I ever landed on a guided trip on Lake Wateree down in SC. 28 pounds even.

Do you find it useful or unnecessary to carry a dedicated spinnerbait/bladed jig setup?
I have the Abu Adrian Avena Pro series spinnerbait rod which I always have a spinnerbait tied on.

What do you have tied on in the summer?

Ned Rigs in Highland Reservoirs
I use a variant of Green pumpkin or watermelon for Hartwell. It is usually pretty clear. Other lakes that are a bit more dirty I use black with blue flake.

Ned Rigs in Highland Reservoirs
I seldom go larger than a 1/8th oz. on a ned rig ever.

Alone
The wife and I are big fans of the show alone. She always jokes me and says I would be a natural for the show since I am happier by myself than having anyone around, and that even the bears would get tired of my grumpiness and leave me alone. lol

Shad trying to spawn with my lure?
I always have shad trying to eat my swivel on my fluke rig. Never really had them try to mate with my bait though. I would have put on some Barry White and let the poor little guys have some privacy. π

Coike!
The jighead I use has a flipping hook style keeper. I haven't had any problems with it sliding down the hook. I also use mine more to cover water than anything. I've had a few come off(fish) but I just figured that was a part of coike fishing. It works loads better than a treble hook(at least for me) What kind of hookset are you using? I use a sweeping hookset with 15lb fluorocarbon. I started off with a vertical hookset like a jig but that was blowing the bait out of the fish's mouth alot. I switched to a sweeping hookset like a crankbait and it helped.

So, I tried an A-rig and...
I've put many a lunker in the boat with the A rig. They flat out work. Yes they are cumbersome and yes they are a pain but you can fill a boat with some good fish. Especially pre and post spawn.

Coike!
I just saw your post and I was like, "Great minds think alike!" After playing around with the coike I have determined that for me this is the best setup. I have a guy who makes custom jigheads and I have him make me a custom head with a longshank 4/0 hook on his shakey head and I use that as my coike hook. I can fish it on the bottom. I can swim it I can jerk it and I can do pretty much anything and everything i want with this rig. I have one other way I rig that is kind of like a mid strolling rig but I don't use it very much as this seems to handle that job just as well.

Bladed jigs?
The pros use what their sponsors pay them to use. Their sponsor brand will always be "the best thing since sliced bread" on camera. You have to think of pro fisherman as a salesman and not a competitor. in the end that is what they are more than anything else. Caught my PB on it a 7 lb 9 oz monster.
