The Jig Is Up

Featured Replies

Actually, it is down, down in size. The bite has been off here, and I have finally had some action with small jigs. Two questions for those who fish jigs:

  1. Which produces more for you, bladed jig, swimming jig, football jig, other?

  2. What plastic trailer is good for the small jigs (1/16, 1/8, 1/4)?

For me modified football (Jewell Pee Wee) with Yamamoto 4” twin tail grub. One of my favorites is the bass whacker with a watermelon red twin tail grub.

I use 3/16, 5/16 and 7/16 depending on wind and depth.

Love myself a small profile finesse jig. Small trailers would be net bait tiny paca craw, a x- zone adrenaline bug jr, definitely the twin tailed grub, sometime a single tail grub, a baby menace or a reaction innovations baby beaver. The list goes on and on but number one is the baby or tiny paca craw.

Thanks guys, that is exactly what I needed.

An 1/8-3/16oz bitsy bug with a trimmed skirt and rage Ned bug trailer is highly effective for finicky bass

I like compact, but not necessarily light, jigs for flipping and dragging. OSP Zero One, Beast Coast Baby Dozer, etc. Finally given up on Keitech footballs after dumping too many fish.

Currently trailering Bellows Craw. Fat Impact is also good on a Football.

I only downsize vibrating jigs when targeting smallmouth or pressured fish, and even then I'm probably just dropping trailer size.

I’ll down size to 3/16 weight jigs and finesse cut the skirts. And use the smallest rage bugs or menace grubs, or a twin tail grub. Skirts trimmed up short also

Fish 1/8 oz hair jig also a Keitech 1/8 oz mini jig. With a Strike king rage bug , blue craw color for a trailer.

Also have some Bitsy jigs 3/16 blue craw color.

Fish seem to like them.

I have been fishing a 1/8 round head jig, I can pull that size through the vegetation easier than a larger jig. Most of the time I will be using a Zoom Super Chunk Jr. as a trailer. If the bass are wanting a smaller profile, then I will use a Netbaits Tiny Paca Chunk.

My all time winner for a skirted jig is a 1/4 oz Phenix football head, with a twin tail grub as a trailer.

It would be a bladed jig for my biggest producer but I kinda don't count it in the jig category. It is more of a moving bait for me(same with swim jigs). The best jig jig for me is a flipping jig. A Dirty jigs, No Jack flippin jig(Usually in 1/2 oz.) with a Berkley max scent pit boss on the back
