Best Budget A-rig

Featured Replies

These have intrigued me for a while. Not crazy about throwing something that looks like a mini chandelier but they’re effective and get bit so why resist. That being said, i want something that you don’t have to constantly tune after each fish, which one is recommended? I thought about the Hog Farmer Tactical Mini Flex but it gets mixed reviews.

One of my fishing buddies does really well on a SK titanium one. It doesn't need tuned and the flex makes the baits act erratically. Personally it's just a way for me to lose $25 worth of tackle on a single cast.

Yum Flash Mob Jr. Best budget versus quality A rig around.

Yum ultralight for $13

Similar size to the bladeless hog farmer "mini" rigs which aren't all that mini, perfect for ~3.75-4" main baits.

They come pre-bent so you don't have to do anything but attach heads and teasers.

They don't include screw locks or any other terminal for non hooked baits so you will need dummy heads or CPS springs.

The Yum is the cheapest but it is not the best made in my opinion. I like the ones from Picasso and Hog Farmers.

The most important thing to me with an A-rig is for it to flex so it looks like a school of escaping fish, which means you need to match the wire to the size baits and heads you are using. Too light of baits, on lets say the Yum, and it won't flex. Too heavy on the Mini Flex Rig and it could cause the lures it touch. You also need to bend the wires out of the package correctly (see video). One last thing, there is no magic one that will not bend on a fish. You will need to reset the wires (unless it's a dink) each time. It takes two seconds.

Yum and the Shanes blades of glory are reasonable and good quality.
