Shad trying to spawn with my lure?

Featured Replies

When fishing a shad swimbait at my local lake earlier today, I was reeling and had shad following and bumping into my bait. This happened multiple times. I would make a cast, and when it was shallow, they would do it again. Knowing that the shad spawn is probably happening, I think they were males trying to spawn with it. They were all smaller than the lure, so I think they thought it was a bigger female. Any thoughts?

I always have shad trying to eat my swivel on my fluke rig. Never really had them try to mate with my bait though. I would have put on some Barry White and let the poor little guys have some privacy. 😂
