Hey guys,

I've been looking into purchasing a Tournament Pro in 7.1:1 for a while here. Lately, I've been wondering if its even worth it over a normal SS? My 6.4:1 SS has been doing me great, it casts a mile and is just all around awesome for $100 (possibly lower with coupons). I'd like some input on the TP vs SS, strictly from a value side of things.

Thanks as always

I just bought a Lews Tournament Speed Spool today and love it. I played with the regular Speed Spool any to me it was worth the extra money over the regular SS. The regular SS was nice but the Tournament was well worth the extra $50. I did look at the Tournament Pro and it was light weight but I couldn't see the extra $ between it and the Tournament.

Depends how much you have to spend to get the Tournament Pro. I got mine for $154 and it was definitely worth it. It is a lot more refined than the Speed Spool and much lighter. You can get by with the Speed Spool but if you can get the TP for a good price I'd go for it.

They are both good reels.

It is worth the extra $$$, both reels are very nice. But the Tournament PRO is quite a bit nicer and smoother and over all a better reel. You can't go wrong with either reel though.

yea idk about this one. i have mostly have the speed spools and theyve all been great! ive checked out the tourny pro and like it, its awesome but idk, its hard for me because theyre both great, smooth, strong, and nice reels. id say if you have the money, go for it if not then get the tournament ss and youll be just fine right in between.

I'd at least buy the Tournament SS. they have the dual breaking (not the MG) like the Tournament pro does.

The SS is a great reel but I like the mechanical breaks more than the mag breaks.

I'm actually quite the opposite. I prefer the mag breaks, oddly enough. I had a reel with mechanical breaks and got rid of it because I just didn't like how it felt.

I'm not sure, but I have 3 TP's and LOVE'em. I love them soooo much that I got rid of most of my Shimanos.

"value" is a hard thing to put your finger on. i have two of the tournament pros and never for a second even considered the regular speed spools because of the 1.6-ounce difference in weight. shedding a little weight tends to get disproportionately expensive. weight is a big deal to me so i'm willing to spend more for less of it but, if you're happy with the SS as-is, just stick to what you like. by the way, generally speaking, brass gears are naturally smoother than duralumin gears so that is one plus for the SS.

Chew on this for a minute:

I was throwing ALL Revo Premiers for the last two years. A few weeks ago, I bit the bullet, broke my loyalty, and bought 2 Lews Tournament MG's. I got one in 7.1 and one in 5.4:1. They are AWESOME! They both come with a deep spool, so I can put well ovr 100 yards of 20# fluoro on them. Secondly, they cast very far, and (what I like most) is that they fit in your hand much easier than a Premier.

All the "likes" aside, I really dont like the extra long handles on them. For me, its a little uncomfortable. However, I DID buy a Lews Tournament yesterday. I got it home, spooled it up, and hit the water. With 40# braid, I am launching 1/4 oz jigs over 40 yards. 40 YARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My premiers cant do that!!!!

Now the best part. If you run a Google search, you can find the Lews Tournament for abroud $124 (and cheaper on ebay)! TW will price match and throw in free shipping.

I know what reel I'm buying next time...

....... anyone interesed in a few Premiers?..............

Thanks for the input :) Lew's are an amazing product, and are the only line of reels that feel right in my hand. They palm so well for me, and I even have small hands.

I'll probably bite the bullet for the TP soon.
