General Purpose Bass Fishing Rod!

Featured Replies

I just bought a Abu Garica 4600C3 Made in Sweden baitcasting reel for bass fishing. I am looking to mount it on a USA made rod like the St Croix Premier Rod, Lamiglas Excel Bass, or the Flacon Original Rod. I will be using soft plastics, and maybe topwater, crank baits, or spinnerbaits.

For a general purpose rod, I would go with a 7ft or longer, Medium Heavy Fast rod. This will provide you the best range of use for general purpose.

As far as brand, go with what feels comfortable for you, if possible try to handle the rods prior to purchase. Preferably with the reel attached, different prefer different specifics to thier rods. What may feel great to me may feel horrible to you.

The majority of experienced fishermen are going to recommend a MHF rod.

However, I much prefer MF which is much more "user friendly" when fishing

weightless soft plastics and all medium weight lures.

I agree with both posts so far. I went with a 7' MHF paired with a chronarch 201E6 as my kind of all around rod but after awhile I found myself using my 7' MF Crucial rod paired with a curado 51e. I would lean more toward the medium fast rod honestly if I had to purchase again.

I would go with a 7 ft MF as previously recommended. That is what my first BC rod was and it served me well for most of the applications that you mentioned.

I normally carry 2 all purpose rods when I go out fishing. For me I would look at the st.croix avid in either the 7 foot M or MH. Both are great all around rods plus by taking the avid you gain a lifetime warranty.

I personally prefer the looks of the Premier over the other 2 lower priced St. Croix rods, the Mojo and Triumph. However, of the rods you mention, I've only had experience with the Falcon Originals. I have a MH and M. I think sensitivity with them is pretty good...especially considering what I paid for them. They stay in Florida, but will be getting a workout in the next couple of weeks. Last year the lures used on them were very limited. This year I am taking several different types to try. With any luck I'll be using all the lures you listed plus a few you didn't. Hopefully I'll have some more feed back on them later.
