Hollow Belly Swimbaits For Deep Bass

Featured Replies

I saw Edwin Evers catching some big bass on a hollow belly swimbait with a big weighted hook. He was fishing it deep hopping it off the bottom. E was using it in place of a deep diving crankbait.

What swimbaits and colors do you like and what weight hook should i use?

Can i use the solid body style like the Big Dipper for this?

With all of the swimbait options out there now I hardly ever use a hollow body. They have virtually no durability and when they do the plastic is to stiff killing the action. They generally do not work well at low speeds. Bastrix is about the only one I throw when I do. If there is not to much cover you can throw a hollow body on a heavy darthead or swimbait head. You can also use a heavy scrounger head. If it needs to be rigged weedless I use owner beast hooks. There are other ways to rig them, I know some guys on here like sledheads.

I do not see any reason why big dippers wouldn't work. In the situation that you are talking about I would probably go for a mission fish, trashfish or a 6in hudd depending on what I want the bait to do.

I have been having good success with the Hollow Belly, Shadalicious and Keitech Swing Impact Fat.

for the hollow baits, I use the 1/4 oz Moaner Stroker weighted hooks: http://www.moanerhoo...dex&cPath=68_65 ,

The Swing Impact is rigged on a jig head:

I was having a tough time getting bit on hollow body swimbaits until I found the right one that worked for me and that was the Bass Magic 3.5" and 4.5". I use a weighted hook usually 1/8oz 4/0 hook for the 4.5" for fishing shallow, anything deeper than 5 feet I use a jig head to fish it. I make my own 3/8oz jig head with a 60 degree flipping hook for the hollow body swimbait and I found this deeper presentation works pretty good, it is probably the fact that fish aren't seeing many baits like that in deeper water so give it a try.
