Okuma Rod Question

Featured Replies

Trying to decide between an Okuma Guide Select or Citrix spinning rod, 6'6" to 7', MH.

Anyone have any experience with these rods? I'd like to hear your opinion.

Okuma isn't really known for their rods, they're known for their reels. As for the quality I have no idea.. It's kinda like buying a penn trolling rod, you rarely see them because they aren't very good, as for the reels that penn makes, they are outstanding. IMO.

They do make great reels at a great price. I have an Okuma flyrod that I really like but spinning rods may be a different game.

I had and Okuma C3 spinning rod that I recently broke when I was in Texas. I tried horsing in a big blue cat with it. I didn't get much time with it, but I liked the feel of the rod other than it was a little heavier than I am accustom to.

Just stick with the companies that are known for rods. St. Croix, All-Star, Daiwa.

Penn rods blanket the horizon in saltwater, mated with their international line of reels.

Not to overly generalize, most manufacturers make low, mid and hi end rods, Penn is no different. Would I buy a Penn for freshwater trolling, probably not, but I would have no qualms in using one for their intended use in saltwater. I own a Penn for offshore use, and my fishing partner fishes with at least 4 or them, all paired with Penn reels.

Okuma has come a long ways with their rods over the past few years. The Citrix is a good rod. It is very light and sensitive. I have a 6'10 ML and I really like it. Im waiting on a 7'0 M to come in the mail as we speak. I would also check out the EVx series. They have some good rods in that line up. Okuma has very good warranties too. So if you were to have an issue with your rod, they will take care of you.

True.. I was thinking for freshwater.

If you've never used them, don't assume anything. The EVx are very good rods. St Croix, Daiwa, and especially All Star also make alot of crap to go along with their decent rods.

X2

Okuma guide select big bait rods are great entry level swimbait rods. I won't hesitate to recommend them to anyone (for the money).

Okuma EVX musky rods seem to have a good following among the guys who chase those fish. i have one of them too, Good rod.

No idea about the bass rods.

Oh yeah, 100% freshwater, 100% bass fisherman here :)

Agreed 110% I have had more issues with St. Croix rods and All Star rods than Okuma rods.
