Opinions on the Rapala Clackin' Rap

Featured Replies

I bought one this spring, lost it after app 20 cast and never replaced it. Should I consider getting a couple of replacements or should I forget about it. Please let me know what you like or don't like about it. Thanks

I didn't catch any fish on them when other lipless

cranks were working. My best luck has been with

the XCalibur Xr50 (Chrome Blue/ Orange).

I've caught very few off the Rap..my favorite is the Yo-Zuri Hardcaore Drum

I will try the new 7/16z sized Rap..the 7/8z is just to heavy for where I fish

I agree with RW. Out of all the Rapala's I have fished,I like this one the least. The lipless cranks have never worked for me. Xcalibur makes the best IMO. xr50 and xr75 are both spectacular.Try the one knocker series. Spro aruku shad is a good one too.

i'm not a big fan. you have to retrieve at a pretty good clip to get it to vibrate. haven't caught many fish on it either compared to other rattleabaits. i changed out the sureset hook...don't like those much.

I also agree that the Rapala Clackin' Rap isn't the best lipless crankbait to throw. I am a much bigger fan of the Rattle Traps. They are the loudest lures I have ever thrown and the fish hammer them. But I do have to say I am a true believer in the sureset hooks.

I'm a fan. The one I've thrown (red crawdad color) has caught me several decent fish lately. I disagree that they need to be retrieved at a "fast" pace to vibrate. In my hands it requires a retrieve no faster than other lipless cranks I've used (Xr50, Xr75, SK red eye shad, Rat-l-trap, etc.).

It is a relatively heavy bait at ~ 1oz, and it sounds different than most other lipless cranks because it is a "one-knocker."

I did change the sure set hook to a #4 Gammy treble.

The finish on the clackin rap has held up to some fair amount of abuse: namely bouncing it off rip-rap and other rock cover. I can testify that the finish on the SK shad, although it is a fish-catching bait in its own right, would never have held up to such abuse. Then again, I've caught fish on some VERY beat-up SK shads, so, the nice, pretty finish may not be so important.

TT did a review of the clackin rap, so give that a look.  IIRC, they liked it.

I bought one earlier this year in 7/8oz Ghost perch I believe . But It hasn't left my plano yet .
