Looking for any advice on how to use this top water lure(heddon super spook). All help is very much appreciated.

Keep it on a semi-slack line and like POPRG said just twitch the rod tip a few times and reel up most of the slack and do it again. That will make the bait do what is known as 'walking the dog'. It will dart back and forth and it's pretty deadly if bass are on a topwater bite. The reason I say keep a semi-slack line is because in my experience if you try to keep the line tight the whole time it kills the action quite a bit.

Swap out the stock hooks with Triple Grips or Gammi wide gap and use an oval split ring. Fish it on 50 pound braid, it floats and you can get an easy hook set, even on super long casts. If you fish for smallmouth, get ready to see this bait get knocked two feet out of the water. Just keep the cadence, even after a miss or four. They will get it sooner or later. Use a translucent pattern in clear water. The braid does not spook them, no pun intended. Awesome fall bait.

yup semi-slack line is the key. drop ur rod so 15" of line is slack and snap rod back 17". the sudden 2" uptake of line will walk ur bait to one side. repeat and ur walking the dog. experiment with longer lengths and also faster/slower tempo to see what the fish like

What other ways are there to fish a spook? Do you mean a faster retrieve vs more subtle?

I have a couple "wounded spooks", they actually work better without the walk the dog retrieve.

My favorite and most productive topwater lure is the Zara Spook. Regular monofilament line or braid is a lot easier to work the bait than using fluorocarbon. To get it to walk back and forth, also known as "walking the dog," keep your rod tip as close to the water as possible while twitching it. Make sure the line is slack when you go to twitch it. Once you twitch the bait on slack line crank the reel a little bit. It takes a little bit to get used to this twitch and wind rhythm, but you'll be walking the dog at any speed before you know it. I love to walk the bait as fast as possible and then kill it for a few seconds. Sometimes they want it walked fast, slow, steady, and sometimes they won't hit it unless it's paused for a good period of time. Just experiment around until you get a bite on it.

The shortcut to a clean zigzag retrieve known as "dog-walking" is a tail-weighted lure.

For many years, the Heddon Super Spook Jr. was my favorite zigzag topwater.

But Zara Spook is now riding on its laurels, and no longer has the same tail weighting.

Today, there are several superior dog-walkers.

This is true, but i've tried it with some success. It really only works if you don't pause the lure for very long or if you work it really fast trying to cover water.

Probably the most addictive bite in bass fishing. Well, at least to me.

Walk The Dog or a slow retreive does it. Or a twitch, twitch, twitch and pause.....then repeat. For some reason the 3 twitches seems to work with any lure on topwater.

I just purchased some magnum spooks to repaint and try in bass colors. "big bait big fish"
