Bluegill/Sunfish Imitators

Featured Replies

When you guys fish bodies of water stocked with bluegill or sunfish or crappie, what do you throw to imitate them to catch the bass?

storm wildeye sunfish kills em for me. unfortunately they dont make em very big ;). and on the high end, matt lures male blue gill is sickeningly realistic. also war eagle has a sunfish finesse spinner thats sexy and produces for me :)

Mattlures!

Mattlures!

x2

Mattlures makes probably THE best bluegill imitators.

I don't see the cracker as a bait like Matt's either..both are good, Matt's is much more life like.

Best Bait to imitate a bluegill yet

The 'Cracker is a nice bait, but surely you dont rank it above a Mattlures Hard Gill for actually imitating a live bluegill....

I haven't used the Jerry Rago Hard Tail Bluegill but it looks pretty neat.

Mattlures has the only bluegill bait that I fish.

You guys make me all warm and fuzzy inside  ;)

You all rule

Thanks!!!

mattlures hard and soft baits imitate bluegill really good, well i have only used the hard but have heard great things about the soft as well.

Edit- i have used the baitsmith soft gill and liked the action on it too but it does cost about 10 more than matt's

I have a few of Matt's soft baits....same deal there..they work.. ;)

seems like we are only talking swimbaits right now but i also like throwing swimjigs with a trailer with a little action like a sassy shad type tail, i go with bitsy bug jigs in green pumkin or other natural color when i want something small.

Your right, just got caught up in the excitment..lol

I also use jigs, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits..in gill colors.

Also rapala's dt cranks have a very nice bluegill color. As well as bandit.

Bagley's "small fry"/"tru life" series...what ever ya want to call them.

Bream/Crappie/Bass/ Crawdad/and Shad

Rebel's "Bait series".....Bream /Crappie/Bass/Shad

I don't "collect".......I use em

Alwayslooking got me a Bluegill/sunfish swimbait package from Academy and they LOOK AWESOME! It's to cold right now to throw them but these things look amazing. The individual pricing is also awesome starting at 9$.

That is a nice kit there, catch anything yet?

i wish they had an acadamy around here i want to try those out. And besides the baits i posted earlier i have to say i use the bait in my avatar by far the most. But i am a little biased  ;)

I just got them a couple days ago from the Xmas exchange. I don't have a Academy around here either but I begged my partner for some H20 baits. I was ecstatic when I opened my gift! These things should be killer around here. I have several clear lakes with tons of sunfish and some great ponds with big bluegill and big bass!!

Bandit and Rapala have great gill patterns for there cranks... as well as koppers
