My Jacksonville Backyard Pond (Big Ones)

Featured Replies

  • Super User

All along since I have moved to Jacksonville, about 3 months ago, I have been searching for a lunker pond and it has been in my backyard this whole time....

Here are some of the fish I caught today. I was fishing for about 1 hour and a half and I caught 8 in total all over 2.5lbs. Should have been 9 because I caught one that was easily 4lbs and I brought him on land and was about to lip em to get the hook out and he jumped, hook popped out, and he rolled back into the lake and swam off!!! I also had a huge one jump out of the water and the hook flew right out of his mouth, easily bigger than any of the ones I have in these pictures.

I caught them using spinner baits, black and pink power bait worm, and a lure that resembles a shiner.

Here are some pics of the fish I caught....

The palomar knot is probably the easiest to tie and I have never had it fail. Once you get it down it's really fast to tie.

  • Yea man I don't know where Yulle is I just moved here a few months ago. I am gonna start doing some salt water fishing in the next few weeks. I caught this 4.5# today around 7:45pm

Wow! U got it made right outside ur door lol. Nice catches

Thanks for sharing.

It hit up that pond near racetrack and bartram sat, we were a little late. Deffinatly some bass, most caught or seen were smaller. Looks heavy fished tho, found someone's old senko type bait, and another couple people showed up but didn't stay long. I want to hit it up earlier, let u know if I get anything.

Nice catches!

I have a pond right by where I live and I've caught some huge fish out of it this year. It's nice to just be able to walk out your door and catch nice fish.

You talking about the one on the corner right before the light on racetrack and bartram? Me and my girlfriend saw someone and their son fishing there in a silver or white SUV could have been you? We were gonna check it out but we went to the Publix pond instead then went to grab some dinner.

Today right before dinner around 8:20pm I was fishing my backyard and I hooked a HUGE one easily 6lbs and was well over 22 inches jumped straight out of the water and took my hook right off! I need to learn to tie better knots because this was at least the 3rd or 4th one i lost like that today.

Yes it is man I didn't know I had fish this big right in my back yard and I have seen much bigger I think they are spawning or something because I see them close to shore and in groups of 2.

I use the trilene knot and I have 8# test on my line, might even be 10# I forget which I put on this time.

My knots are usually reliable so i guess the fish that take my hooks are monsters lol. But I am gonna try to learn a different knot

My girlfriend pulled out a 2# and a 2.6# last night around 7pm. So far we haven't caught anything under 2# there so I am betting that there are some MONSTER FISH in there somewhere it's just a matter of time before I get em on my hook!

I caught these 2 bass today around 5:20pm. I caught the smaller one first, 2.5#, and then I caught the big one after, 4.10#.

I caught 6 fish today in my pond and I was fishing for a little over a hour.

There is something even bigger out in my pond because I hooked it twice and it took the hook right off. I just saw its body flash about 5 feet off shore and it was huge!

I have been in Jacksonville since feb. and the only place I have seen a gator is alligator farm in Saint Augistine lol. You know any places around here that have em in them I am from NJ so I would like to see one in the wild when I am fishing. I also haven't seen a water moccasin yet either

Yeah it took me 2 yrs before I saw a gator when I lived in St Pete. the pond on AC Skinner near Belmont has a big gator I am told. Another was spotted at a park. Check out Guana lake, catch some reds and see some gators. Cottonmouths are all over, shoot the one on the corner of racetrack n bartram, they are pretty much everywhere. We saw a Pygmy rattler at the preserve. If u like hiking check it out, there is a 2 mile round trip to a creek that looks straight un touched bayou. Pygmys are very common too, and they are too small to hear their rattle so watch where u step. Speaking of stepping u get a chance to be bit by the fire ants lol I just stepped in a nest the other day man, not fun. And scorpions too, just found one hiding in a closet. U be careful out there lol Florida is a jungle.

I went fishing this morning at 6:20 and I caught the 4.10# AGAIN!!!

It has a gash on its left side & I weighed it that is how I know it was the same EXACT fish... caught the same one within a 12 hour period.
