Featured Replies

I'm interested in knowing this too. I just bought some Northstar Jigs so I need trailers now

I match colors always. I dont look at names of colors though. A Green Pumpkin Jig doesnt have to have a trailer labeled "Green Pumpkin". As long as the color is a variation of green pumpkin or looks good together im happy. I just dont want a Brown and orange craw with a black w blue fleck trailer.

At least a sinilar shade most of the time.

I always match my trailer the only variance I will have is one I add like dying claws or dying a few strands of skirt. But if your using north star jigs ( which you should be if your not!) I like the dennybrauer 3x chunks and use them as much as I can buy I I run out zoom super chunks match up well too

Always

Sometimes......

I find that often times, contrasting colors have a good effect on the eating habits of fish.

For instance, black jig with a blue sapphire trailer.

Maybe a green jig with a brown trailer or brown jig with a black or green trailer.

Experimenting is the name of the game....

I used 3 brands of Jigs only, Northstar, Dirty and Omega.

I only use Zoom plastics for trailers, these choices are what I have found to be the best options for me and fill my needs totally.

I always match the jig color, so greens with greens, browns with browns.

I make mostly two exceptions, White jigs with chartreuse trailers, and black with blue. Sometimes brown with orange if I am fishing a river for smallies.

Black and Blue is the most productive color combo I have found.

I use either chunks, single or double tail grubs. Pretty basic, but Zoom plastic really have the best overall colors and price can't be beat.

I always match.. Gotta love North Star Flip n Swim jigs with Paca Crawl Sr. Trailers!

Contrasting can be a good producer, like matstone7 said. Brown jig with orange trailer or a purple trailer seems to be fairly popular. I can attest to the latter. I got p.o.'d at my junebug smokin rooster (purple tint) and threw it on my brown swim jig. I ended up catching a bass on 2 lures that never caught anything at the same time. So a peanut butter/jelly combo works. Black and blue, and any variance of it, seems to work regardless of time of day, weather, and/or water conditions. From what I've learned on here is matching the hatch is a pretty good way to go. Bluegill have blues browns and greens. The sunfish where I live have greys, browns, greens, and some orangish reds. Of course, there's crappie. Ours is black with brown ish greys. Since I have yet to see a real live crawdad, I have no clue what to recommend for them.

Oh, black/red flake skirt and same type trailer works good too. Something about black, chartreuse, or white gets those bass going.

I like the dennybrauer 3x chunks

Just FYI, these are being discontinued, so buy em up now!

Why does it seem that some of the more productive lures get discontinued? My local tackle shop aren't getting any more Rage Tail products because his supplier isn't selling them all that much. I find that very difficult to believe considering how popular they are on here. I'm the kinda guy who doesn't buy his stuff based on name brand. I only care if it works and if it will last under normal usage. I would be mad as heck if Zoom stopped making black trick worms or if Heddon stopped making Spooks.

Thankfully with most lures there are good alternatives out there. But there are a few that will either work better or work the same while lasting through more fish.

Like Roadwariior , I always match the jig and trailer.

Most of the time I try to match, I'm more concerned with action than color.

Wow kinda amazed by everyone that always match, I do sometimes but not always. Black and blue jig with pumpkinseed trailer is an absolutely killer combination.

Guess that would do a gill imitation Good

Thank you very much for the heads up bout to order a ton of em

I love the 3x chunk they are very buoyant. Make my 3/8 fall like a 1/4 and the claws always stand up. Maybe not the most popular trailer but I love them, just wish elastech didn't melt so easy
