I bought a couple of jigs some time ago and want to start using them. I had a couple of casts with them but they feel way too bushy for me. I am no pro but they do seem to look and feel very bulky. I know that it is also up the angler and each to his own. When I compare these to any other jig at our local shops they all seem to have almost half less strans. I think I need to thin them a bit. What do you guys think.

Big bait = BIG fish

I'm not sure what size they are but there are times when a jig with an extra full skirt will get bigger fish. If you are catching a lot of fish on a day it seems they are biting everything and you are looking for a bigger fish, that is when you use jigs like those you have, the big profile not only limits the amount of smaller fish that will bite it but it will also appeal to bigger fish.

That top one looks like a 1/4 maybe 3/8. Bottom I'd say is 3/8 going of standard hand size.

Nope they dont look too bushy to me. Put a trailer on them and fish away.

OK will keep them as is, I bought some trailers today and will try them again.

I like really full jigs. That is about all I will fish. Could never find any in the stores with enough skirt material. I actually started tying my own because of this reason.

The skirt on that jig is just fine. I might would trim the length, but thats personal preference and nothing more.

Everyone pretty much nailed it they look like grass/swim jigs and that big full skirt will attract fewer but generally bigger fish I would put a bulky compact trailer and fish it in the thickest cover you can find. The white though would topically be for swimming as it mimics a baitfish also for bed fishing because it will be easy to see and you are just trying to tick them off into a bite.

I make some of my homemade ones with really full skirts so they fall slowly and have a lot of bulk. Makes them better in colder water or dirty water I think.
