If I may offer my .02, I've found the best for spinning reels is to use braid for mainline, then tie on a leader of whatever material, be it fluorocarbon, copoly, mono, etc. It'll also end up a lot cheaper in the long run since you'll leave the braid on for a year or two and simply tie a new leader. So a spool of fluoro might also last you a year... As I said, just my .02.

If that's just not gonna do for ya, a good quality fluorocarbon (toray, sunline shooter, Seaguar and plenty of others folks will give you suggestions as well) is your answer. I'd venture 10# is the heaviest I'd use, with a generous spraying of KVD line conditioner to make it more nimble.

Not sure about straight flouro...But P-line cx, P-line flouroclear, and Yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft are all good flouro copoly lines that work well for spinning reels.

10# is probably too heavy for a bass spinning reel, I'm not surprised with some coiling, braid and a F/C leader eliminates that issue. I soak my line in hot water for about 15 minutes, the line is supple I don't have a coiling problem when spooling up. I use 14-17 and 20# on 5000 and 8000 spinning reels and it works well for me, after trying a host of different lines I'm back to trilene xl, no coiling, no problems.

Been using Invisx 8lb on my spinning rods, had no issues with line management or breakage. I do treat with KVD L&L when I spool and the night before going out.

I've been using trilene XL mono since i started bass fishing. and when i fish heavily weeded areas i use power pro from 10-30lb test. I never tried flurocarbon because i have never had the need with the exception of flurocarbon leaders when saltwater fishing.

my friend tried flurocarbon on his spinning reel once and he did not like it at all and went back to mono.

8lb Sunline Sniper. Spray KVD line and lure on the spool a couple times during spooling and you will love it.

Same here. Been using it for 4 years now and I love it.

what kind of braid do you guys recommend?

what kind of braid do you guys recommend?

I like Power Pro 20-30#

Power Pro 20lb, with a fluro or yozuri hybrid leader and your in business

How do you guys that are advocating braid like the braid for finesse applications? Do you feel its sensitive enough and manageable? I've never used braid before so I am now wondering. How long of a leader do you tie? Do you finesse with your spinning gear? I usually bring out my spinning rod to flick shake/drop shot/fly line plastics... or for any other light baits I am using.

Braid is great for finesse applications. With a fluro leader you are well aware of what happening with your bait. This type of set up transmits the lightest peck or pick up.

I use 8lb invisix. Spray kvd line and lure every hour or two as needed. Line flies off the reel and also don't forget to close the bail by hand after your cast.

6-8llb is best for finnese fishing. i see no reason in using braid. i personally use mono but mose guys use fluoro

I have tried many many fluorocarbons on spinning reels. I won't use it any more as main line. Power Pro braid for me, with a fluoro leader. Mono is much more managable on spinning gear than fluoro.

I think braid was made for spinning reels. Joking aside I use #15 pound braid which is like 4# mono with a 12# mono leader. No line memory, no line jumping off the spool and everything is super smooth.

Braid is more about line diameter, manageability and line capacity. Strength is pretty much a given, PP 20# has a breaking strength of about 35#, that's somewhere in the middle of the pack, I don't advocate one brand over another.

I personally use 10 or 15# for freshwater fishing on my spinning gear, I have given up F/C leaders, but use mono ones. Inshore fishing to me isn't much different than freshwater, except no slop, but there are other reasons for needing a bit stronger line. I'm using 15 and 20# braid, with 30 and 40# leaders, using knots tied correctly, understanding the drag, I have no weak links from lure to reel, with a strong chain like this I can handle one hell of a fish, with no line issues.

so with the fluro leader is it pretty abrasion resistant? and does anyone have a braid they really like i mainly fish rivers and and crik which is extremely clear so something that isnt really visible is a must

  • Super User

Power Pro 20lbs for the main and Fluro (take your pick of good brands) or yozuri hybrid leader. You cannot go wrong with this set up. Abrasion resistance will not be your problem. The knot you use to join the lines will be.

Do you guys like Power Pro Spectra, Sufix 832, or Sufix Performance better? I hear all of the braids bleed slightly and fade over time. Has anyone used any of these and love it or can you not go wrong?

  • Super User

Suffix, power pro. You can't go wrong. I personally use Power Pro. Any of the braids you choose will bleed and fade over time. That has no bearing that its going bad. If you read the little booklets that some bring, it states that.

I mostly use Berkley Trilene 100% Florocarbon.

I threw on some Power Pro 20lb w/ an 8# fluoro leader on my spinning setup :/ I always end up spending a little cash if I browse for too long on this website. Hopefully this does well for finesse. I read the packages and the diameter of the 20# braid and my 8# fluorocarbon were equal so it seemed like the right choice to pair up.

What ever braid you get, make sure its smooth. PP is like running a chain saw blade through my guides.
