Been using black and blue strike king arkie head jig with a black/blue sweet beaver as a trailer and caught some really nice fish. I just put in an order to Northstar for some flip n swim and black series jigs so we'll see if this answer changes

With a baby brush hog. Zoom magnum trick worm in green pumpkin chartrues tail on a 4/0 gammy ewg hook has also been go this season same weight.

I don't ever trim my NorthStar skirts. I feel like they are already a perfect length for me, but there are some other jigs I have used where I needed to trim them a bit to allow my trailer to move.

Trimming jig skirts are sometime necessary for a variety of reasons.

Adjust the bulk or profile as needed by thinning or reducing skirt length to create a more compact presentation or to increase fall rates. Also trimming the skirt length to make the jig trailer more obvious or provide more water flow for the possibility of more action.

The shortest that I would ever trim a skirt is 1/4" longer than the hook bend and that is for COMPACT presentations. I often leave the jig skirts as is, because I'd rather adjust my trailer choices, lengths etc to achieve the profile desired and maintain great action.
