What are you going to try in the new year?

Featured Replies

reading the fish finder correctly, and setting it up correctly. other than that deep fishing ... never can get it right.

Definitely want to try drop shot.  Also wanna give swimbaits and jerkbaits a shot too.  I agree with Backlash_NC, breaking the worm comfort zone is tough.

hard Swimbaits (tylure  hard sunfish) and improve on my dock/timber jig fishin

I am planning on fishing a spinnerbait DEEPER this year. Up to now, I rarely throw a blade bait in anything more than 4-5 feet. This season I'm going to try slow rolling a heavy spinnerbait in some of the same places I would normally throw a deep running crankbait and perhaps even deeper. I've been reading up on it this off season (which is waaay tooo long) and I think it might be a technique that the fish up here don't see much.

Also, if I can muster up the commitment, I going to make a few trips with nothing but Buzzbaits in the boat. We'll see. . . . . . .

Jigs and spinnerbaits are my main focus for the coming year

I going get back to the Carolina rig this year. It is a great search tool and I have always done well with it, got away from it to try some new techniques that did not work as well.

Gonna focus on cranksbaits.Learned jigs last year, crankbaits are bout the only bass lure i havent learned to fish well yet.

Punching mats!!!

Lets see.

1 Canoe

2 swimbaits

3 dropshot

4 every other lure or rig excluding crankbaits since those are my all else fails lures

Drop shotting

swimbaits

Z-Man elastec frogs and swimbaits

crankbaiting logs in the river

Jigs w/ trailers

Crankbaits- both lipped and lipless

Soft plastic frogs

Flukes

Carolina Rigs

and a few other things I can't think of right now.

once you try frogs...you may never use anything else...

I've got quite a few things I really need to learn or get better at, some of I know nothing at all. I just hope I don't try to much at once, or in a short time and get overwhelmed, or not perfect any. But, here are some lures I plan on trying more of:

(1) Senkos ...I've heard too much good about them and I've got to learn this method this year.

(2) jigs ... I just have never done good on jigs, Ive got to give them more effort.

(3) spinnerbaits... I've had limited sucess on them and need to be more patient.   :-[

What lures do you want to try this year?

I really want to try the new Swimmin' Flukes and Jelly Worms. I also want to try some Paca Chunks.

I'm going to do a lot a "rigged" wacky worming. The rigged wacky worm is weighting the head end of the worm with a nail.

I catch a lot of fish with two setups: a shakyhead and a wacky worm. The "rigged" wacky is almost mixing the two.

We'll see how it works.
