Fluke Hooks

Featured Replies

I fish a baby bass colored zoom fluke on a

2/0-3/0 wide gap worm hook. Recently I have been having problems with the fluke sliding down the hook shaft and bunching up near the barb. Any suggestions about different hook sizes or shapes?

Fluke or Superfluke? For regular sized (not the jr.) super fluke I use a 5/0 Gamakatsu Superline EWG hook, plenty of "bite" to stick and keep one pegged, plus the extra weight of the superline hook helps with casting on MH casting gear and it kinda keel weights the bait to keep it from twisting as much.

I use a 3/0 EWG gammy. Use a parasite weightless clip to keep the bait from sliding down the hook. A 4/0 superline hook will give you a bit of extra casting distance and a faster sink rate.

I just picked up some new swim bait hooks, 5/0 eagle claw lazer sharp made for DOA swim baits it has a longer shank part. Used them on both the super fluke n swimming super fluke seem to fit a bit nicer. Suppose to not tear on hookset n make hook set easier since the point is through a thinner part of the bait. I also use 5/0 super line and std 5/0 EWG. Superfine do get nicer distance and a slightly faster fall. All depends on what you want.

I like the Owner CPS hooks for flukes, both weighted and unweighted.

I put an oily fish attractant like Kickn'Bass on the bait before hooking it. 90% of the time, the bait will end up on the line, out of the way, instead of balled up on the hook shank. The baits also last longer that way.

I've used both 4/0 ewg and worm hooks for my flukes, yesterday I proved to myself I like a worm hook better.

Parasite clips are fantastic for flukes. I use them on all fluke presentations as well as my T-rigs.

I love the Owner CPS, like Hooligan said. I also use these by Paycheck. It's a plastic screw-lock bullet w/o any weight.

The bass can't throw these off the hook, it just says in place or slides up the line with it still attached to the plastic screw-lock.
