Lures for....

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I need some help with picking out the right knids of tackle for my style of fishing.

I always fish very small ponds, most have patches of heavy weeds, all the way to the surface. one i fish has no weeds just a muddy bottom.

What type of lures do you think i should throw to catch these hogs i know are living in here?

Well the one with weeds to the top I would definitely recommend some frogs, maybe some spinnerbaits, some plastic worms, and some jigs and other weedless lures. Crankbaits probably wouldn't work the best unless there is some open paths. For the one with the muddy bottom, try some plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, pretty much anything you want but try and find some kind of cover like rocks, weeds, points, etc...

I fish small ponds too, some with some relatively large bass. It's just been my personal opinion and experience that almost any lure can be a big bass lure if it's fished where there's a big bass.

In the weedy ponds you describe, there's often very little lure choice in much of the pond, i.e., topwaters and soft plastics. I think you should fish whatever lure you feel is right for the conditions and your big fish will come if you're fishing the right spots at the right times.

Last year i used scum frogs, senkos and power worms. HAd a great year, just wanna try somthing new.

I think im gunna try some rage tail shads and jigs.

Black Jointed Jitterbug.

Inline spinner, 4" senko (wacky style) and a small 1/8 all black jig w/ small craw trailer.

like the comments on top, go with spinnerbaits, jigs, and worms for your small pond with weeds.  In the lake with muddy bottoms try a crankbait that when you crank it is touching the bottom or swimming really close to the bottom.

Senko's rigged every which way. Wacky rig around weed edges. T-rig to punch through the thicker stuff. C-rig for the muddy bottom.

Also never pass up the old standbys for ponds such as a jig & grub, tiny torpedo, jitterbug, beetle spin etc...

For small ponds,a must have bait IMO is a Rebel humpback...........not the new one, which is 2 inches .....the old model that measures 1.75 inches........yeah,it's on the small side but big fish will and do hit it...good luck.

I agree with the Senko users and also try a frog like a horny toad or rage toad. Fish them with braid and you can fish them all year long. Fish them slow when water is cooler and burn them when water is 70 or more. This is a big fish bait for sure.
