Roooooster Tails

Recommended Posts

Picked up a couple rooster tails for the boys, so we went to try them out yesterday. The oldest got 7 bluegills, a couple nice ones. The youngest had a bit of a hard time getting the reeling down but with my help we ended up with a couple, including a big guy. He passed his time between fish playing in the mud and taking a dip with his clothes on LOL. We had a blast though, their smiles tell it all. Here are some pics thanks for looking.

Nice outing for the kinder. For 2 times the price a Mepps spinner will last 10 times longer and spin much better.

Thanks! Yeah I only seem to find blue fox or wordens in the couple of stores I been to. I have some bigger ones, will check the brand, but I believe they are wordens from my aunts tackle when she was a teen in the late 60's some of the paint is chipped but they still work. I do notice what u mean about how they spin, have to go pretty quick and sometimes they "stick" (even the old ones). That was part of Nate's problem he was too slow and jerky.

Goose gave a tip about bending the blade on the roostertails, I tried it and the performance was greatly improved.

you live in florida and your kid swam in the pond? dont you guys have alligators in neighborhood ponds?

LOL not quite. Gators are more like a mythical creature. They are in places like swamps and Fdot ponds, these neighborhoods the HOA would have the national guard out to remove the thing so their toy poodle wouldn't get snapped up in a heartbeat.LOL....It wasn't really a swim. He was fascinated by the sand/mud squishing he was jumping up and down, hit a slick spot and boom on the backside in the drink and he wasn't in for long, you shoulda seen him scramble out once he fell LOL.

haha glad to hear, only reason i asked is because i have heard of dogs and joggers getting attacked by gators in small neighborhood ponds in florida.

Glad you and kids had fun. Ive been fishing 1/4oz roostertails latley catching largemouth, pickerel, and trout in this little stream. I just wish it wasn't so snaggy.

I catch a lot more bass on Mepps than roostertails too, probably partially because I buy a much bigger size than I normally do in the roostertails.

Congrats to your boys. I remember catching some of my first bass on a roostertail. Very rarely fish them for bass anymore but I still catch some trout on them now and then.

X2 this does work, I now do this when I take them out of the package. Blue Fox is suppose to be good also, had some but had better luck with the white/sliver Roostertails. Seems the bass around here like the white better, as I also have better luck with white sencos.

From the expressions on the little guys faces looks like they had a ball fishing with dad!

I have seen gators in many neighborhood ponds near me and in my own development. Its been a while but its startling when you go to walk your dog near the lake and you see a beast baking in the sun. My moms lake is small and they pulled 3 out of it but that borders a canal near by.

We get them in our ponds every now and then, and they do come in from the canals. On the positive they come for food, if ya see a gator there is real good chance of some nice fishing being there. The HOA doesn't play around, they get a professional there quick to catch it.

Yeah there is no access like a canal or swamp around for most of these ponds. The couple places I have seen them here in Jax are Fdot ponds with canal access(the interchange at 295) or swamps near the road(A1A and 210). I keep an eye out cuz you never know, but I am confindent in my observations that there are no gators in this pond.

Don't overlook the Panther Martin spinners. Pure dynamite!
