Well I Froze My $#$#s Off

Recommended Posts

Well i did my annual Hudson river trip. Went with Big John only this year-The other ladies couldnt make it- OH IM AFRAID BLUTO- We might get cold-Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor-Wermer Dead Marmalard Dead----------- Neidermeir--Oh sorry Im losing it--

so anyway went up there / left Saturday morning -got up on the water about 1030

The wind was howling-25mph snowing like a beaotch- Looked like someone cut open a beanbag in my boat..

I had 5 layers on and looked like the kid from a Christmas Story-Ralph’s brother.

Air temp was 38 water temp was 40. I was up there 3 weeks ago -slammed them on strike back spinner baits and MegaBugs-water temp was 58

Totally amazing how quickly the temps drop in three weeks.

Fished some main river points but to catch nothing

I moved into the wintering creeks .found vertical rock walls and started throwing MegaBugs-Grubs on 1/8 oz Pro model shakey 2's.

Fished sloooooooowly just dragging the baits. When I wanted to move the bait I let it sit for another 10 seconds -Thats when I felt just a little weight set the hook I was using 4 lb fluorocarbon . Need that because the water was clear and cold. The bass only feed at certain times because it is tidal -cold and vertical. They will not chase the baits like in warmer water. Ya gotta basically hit them on the head

so after two days of freezing my butt off I ended up with a few smallies and about 14 bass all together-No giants but I am going up for one more trip before Ice--Two years ago i ghad my best year there-Over 50 bass between the three of us a day. Giant 4-5 and 6 lbrs but what was wild was the water was 34 degrees. The colder the better. HMMM go figure- maybe Glenn will go this time.

Nice Job Man ~

And there is no doubt in my mind that despite the colder temps, you guys were Really Looking Forward to Hammering them - Especially since "The other LADIES couldn't make it".

btw - what's with the Micro - Font ? You're making me feel even older . . . .

:happy11:

Maybe next time you'll catch a cold along with the fish. :laugh5:

This old man wrapped up the season the day after Turkey Day, on a Cape Cod pond. Temps in the mid 50s, the surface of the pond was like a mirror, water temp about 42. A nice five hours of fishing netted two of us three largemouth bass and a chain pickerel.

Next Thursday the boat goes in to get the motor winterized and checked over. With any luck, I'll get out a few times next April to clear the fogging out of the motor, and practice for the road trip. I may not be too bright, but I'm not a glutton for punishment. I had enough ice in my beard during my commercial lobstering days.

Fish year round here in West Tenn. I have had the best bass fishing all year so far during the last 4 weeks. Water temp currently as of this past weekend was 56 degrees. We always have some nice days throughout Dec, Jan, and Feb. Fished New Years eve this past year in short sleeves and 70 degree temps. Below 40 for highs I usually stay home, just because this old man doesn't like being cold anymore.
