Hook size

Featured Replies

What size hooks should I get for T-rigging a 6' tequilla sunrise,  a 10' red shad worm, a red shad lizzard (i dont know what size it is but its made by zoom and the product number is 00-029), and horny toad (by zoom, again product number 083-120)

Is there any general rule of thumb when it comes to this that I can remember, or is it all pretty much process of elimination, or personal preference?

3/0 -5/0 EWG worm hook? If I had to only use one for all those it would be a 4/0.

Bubba, I can only tell you what works for me. I prefer 3/0 or 4/0 Owner hooks, depending on the thickness of my bait. I plan on trying Gammy wide gaps this year on certain plastics such as Senkos, which I have never used that much before. Maybe some of the other guys and gals here can give you better insight on what to use. Good fishing!

i use 3/0 wide gap gamakatsu for almost all soft plastics...i personally wouldnt go smaller than that ,but larger 4/0 or 5/0 i would for certain baits..........

Well, for the 6 foot worm, I would recommend a 25/0 Gamakatsu.  For the 10 foot worm, something around 30/0 or 35/0 should work.

;D :)

Special order from Gamakatsu.  $250 each.  I use them for bull bluegill.   :)

I don't want to make a new topic for such a quick question, but can I ask real fast, what hook is most suitable for a Fat Ika?

Gamakatsu EWG 4/0 standard wire is perfect, IMO.

I use a 4/0 on 6" worms...and step up to 7/0 on 10" worms.
