Older Reel?

Featured Replies

I was looking at a reel thats not made anymore and was wondering if anybody has used it in the past. The reel was a Pinnacle VS5 round reel, anyone ever use one and what price would u pay for one NIB? It looks like it could be a nice little reel.

I wouldn't pay much for old technology if I were planning on using it. If I were a collector with no thought of usage, I'd pay whatever it took to add it to my collection.

There isn't really any outdated technology in the reel. It's pretty similar to Calcutta B, Millionaire, Ambassedeur, style reels. They're all pretty much the same, and haven't changed in 20+ years. I'd say $50, if it's new in the box would be fair.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a C3 4600 that I really like and thought this might be able to throw lighter lures.

This sounds about right to me, too.

I have a little Shimano Cardiff 100a that does fairly well with light lures, if you feel like shelling out a little more money. I think mine was about $85 shipped from an Ebay dealer.

Well I bought it for $36. Hope all works out well, I'll update this tread when it gets some use.

I bought it off ebay...my $36 bid got beat out by a dollar at the last second, but the seller had another one that was "Buy it now" for $50 (is this where u got your price J Franco? lol) that did not sell so I offered him $36 for it and he agreed. Awesome!!!

I pulled that price straight out of my.... :eyebrows:

Good deal, fish it like you stole it!

When I got back into fishing I was using a couple of reels that were probably 20 to 25 years old, but in great shape. I bought new because I didn't want one of the reels to break out on a trip and have to spend $150 on a new reel because no one carried a $1 part.

Well this sucks....I got the reel in the mail today and it won't come out of free spool. So I figure it just needs to be taken apart and lubed. WRONG, the free spool lever is broken...right where the free spool lever engages with the gear to kick it out of free spool. Its sheared off so it won't engage with the gear. Very disappointed, it was my birthday gift and I doubt that pinnacle still has parts for this reel in stock.

Does anyone know where I can get parts for this reel??? Either that or I hope the dealer on ebay will give a refund.

I'd sure try for a refund, but if that doesn't pan out or you really want to keep the reel, contact Pinnacle. Their customer service is top-notch and there's a chance they would have the part.

The dealer should give you a refund. Failing that, you'd be surprised what Pinnacle has in their parts dept.

Well the dealer gave me a refund plus he paid shipping back to him. He was a good guy nand it looked like an honest mistake, I would still buy another reel off him. Ended up buying a pair of winter hiking boots that was one of cabelas daily holiday deals, since i needed them more than another reel.

I think I still might get a reel, Cabelas has a U.S hibdon 800 on sale for $40 that I might have to try out.

Not to hijack this thread, but last week I bit on that Cabelas deal, i.e. the US Reels Supercaster Hibdon 800 SX. I haven't put line on it or anything like that, but just playing with it in my living room it seems like a good deal for $40. I'm planning on putting 17 lb mono on it and wearing it out throwing spinnerbaits.
