What Else Can I Fish For During These Cold Winter Months?

Featured Replies

I live in Philadelphia. Its prett cold here now. Water temps are low and the bass aren't biting. What else can I fish for? I just want to catch fish. I own mostly all bass lures bt have small spinners, tiny hair jigs, tiny curly tail grubs on tiny jig heads stuff like that. Any suggestions on what I can go after Id appreciate.

The bass in the lakes I usually fish have pretty much shut down so Ive been going after trout recently. Ive been catching them on inline spinners but Ive seen others crushing them with powerbait. If you don't know any streams with a natural trout population, maybe check the PA DNR website and see if they stock them anywhere. You could also try pickerel. They should hit any bass lure you have.

white bass, hybrids, stripers, walleyes, saugeye, and sauger all will hit bass lures and stay relatively active during the winter months. Locating fish that are willing to bite is one of the biggest battles during the winter months. You can usually rule out a lot of shallower water and concentrate more on deep channel swings, bluff banks, points that drop into deep water, and deep holes with slow current in rivers.

Like Tuckahoe Joe said, if there's trout nearby those are probably your best bet for consistent fishing in cold water.

Here in southern Ohio, I like to go after sauger in the river. They really peak in February.

Take a trip and go south, plenty of fish.

If the water isn't hard I would still try to go after bass. The bigger girls need to feed more that the smaller ones do, so they may be more active.

Cusk are biting most in winter.

I still chase bass, I pride myself on catching them in the cold, few and far between? Yes lol but I love it !
