Any One Else Ever Done This?

Featured Replies

I've found something kind of weird thats been working for me lately on a few local ponds that I fish. When the wind blows really hard I can see the wake of fish moving close to the surface, ive been casting a popper in front and slightly past the wakes and working it REALLY hard to the fish and getting some killer reaction bites. Any one else ever tried it?

Ive seen the wakes your talking about and Ive thrown baits at them but no luck over here.

Given the choices between blind casting, casting to a specific area I think that may hold fish and sight casting where I'm seeing some kind actively, fish, bait, birds. Sight casting wins every time, as I know there is something there, whether I'm getting a strike is up to the fish, but the presentation is there.

As Snook said, sight fishing.

When there is some wind and chop on the water's surface a topwater or spinnerbait can do the trick.

We do it when they chase shad in the summer. Sometimes they boil on the top but lots of times you'll just see the shad start to skitter across the top. Work a Spook Jr. as fast as you can through them and a majority of the time they'll nail it.

Yes I have seen it happen. The strong wind seems to gather the bait & the largemouth get active cruising the wind blown shoreline looking for an easy meal. Try using a wake bait like a lucky craft RC1.5 if you can find them. They stay in the zone.

Thanks guys!

The wind blowing across the water is causing the forge that the bass are feeding on to become trapped in a certian area (this forge is not always shad, however that is the most common). The bass that are typically hitting those types of areas are wolfpack bass, schools of LM chasing after schools of baitfish, or whatever the forge may be. You can catch a lot of good fish this way, but these fish are typically not resident bass, and on a bigger body of water, you can spend a whole day chasing them around.
