I read in the Bassmaster tackle tips that a dryer sheet under your hat keeps the mosquitoes away. Has anyone tried this? Does it really work?

I tried it. haven't been bothered by mosquitos in the past week :-)

From what I understand you are supposed to rub the dryer sheet on your skin. I've tried most of these remedies, my blood is so sweet I'm always being attacked when others aren't bothered at all. One of the better repellents is Avon skin so soft.

I had on old landscaper friend tell me to stuff dryer sheets in my pockets to prevent the mosquito's from biting,i tried it once and for me it didn't make a difference,all it did was make me smell pretty.I believe what worked for him was his cigarettes not the fabric sheets,he chain smoked all the time while he worked.I would think a fine cigar would work just as well,plus they make a good fishing companion.lol

Skin so Soft works good. Eating plenty of garlic also helps in repelling the mosquitos.

Yes I have tried it and it does work well. The above mentioned skin so soft is also a good choice. I use a thermal cell when out in the summer fishing but If I didn't have that a dryer sheet is what I would use. Do not use any insect repellent that has deet while fishing.

The thermal cell works ok when you're fishing if you are stationary, anchored or something like that. When you are bass fishing and there is any kind of a breeze or if you are running your trolling motor any faster than a dead slow crawl, the therma cell is ineffective. The protection is literally blown away.

I can't speak to the dryer sheet, never heard of it and never tried it. I'll probably try it new year. I keep dryer sheets in my fishing barn for various purposes. When I put the tarp on the boat for the winter, I put dryer sheets in every storage bin, as an anti- stink measure.

Small levels of deet like 20-30% you'll be fine but if you get the strong stuff like the 100% bens it can eat through nylon. Really isn't a problem in small doses because the stuff is so strong you only need a very small amount, like a thumb print worth on your neck. I am pretty lucky that skeeters don't bother me to much but it may be from working outside for a long time I got used to them.

According to the book knowing bass the research showed Deet as " repulsive" to bass. Even the smallest amount was able to be detected by bass.

Interesting info- I haven't noticed any negative effect from using deet yet but I'll pay more attention in the future.
