Has anyone in the forum used the Recoil Rig by Secret Weapon?  Curious about how it's worked vs a traditional drop shot.  

I have - it is very deadly for enticing a bite. With a traditional drop shot, your bait will rise and fall as the weight does. With the Recoil rig, the bait stays in the same spot and moves around. I have a couple sets and use them this time of year. Great on deeper fish to when the summer bite it tough.

It's really good under docks.

if you can find that type of bungee string , looks like something you could make your self.

Would it work for casting and dragging?  Cast it out, let it sink, jiggle it a few, drag it out a bunch and repeat.  

 

Seems like for more of a stationary presentation using a drop shot.

Does the bungee cause problems when casting or flipping?

If you are fishing docks with this rig, you aren't trying to skip cast it. You are typically using a vertical technique or even a pendulum/flipping technqiue to accurately drop the rig right next to or slightly under the dock. If you are fishing an area where there is no wind affecting your ability to hold position, you could possibly get away with a lighter bottom weight, but it would still not be advisable to try and snap off a tournament style cast. As a kayak angler, I can usually get away with a lighter presentation. From a boat, someone like jfrancho might be better resource.

Just put a heavy weight, ~1/2 oz or so, and pitch it under just like you would a jig.

You most certainly can. That is the technique to use when you are "searching" for the best spot. Kind of like fan casting a jerkbait in winter where you pause long periods of time between subtle twitches only here you are pausing to twitch then lifting and moving a few inches, long pause then subtle twitches of the rod on a slightly slack line. If you are keeping your line tight then rod movement is much less.

I always carry a supply of recoil rigs with me. They work fabulous for drop shotting smallies when they are suspended. Sometimes less action is the way to go however, which is why I always start with the standard drop shot. Then if I know I'm over fish and can't seem to get bit, then I'll try the recoil rig.
