Quantum Sga600Cx , Flip Switch Assembly?

Featured Replies

  • Super User

Does anyone have an image of how the Quantum flip switch and spring are assembled inside the reel?  This is an old Quantum reel which has actually turned out to be a great reel for me. Anyway, I was tearing it down to clean and lube it back up and I shot the flip switch and spring out before I got a good look how it was in there. If anyone has a picture or diagram of some sort that would be awesome.

Also, does anyone that polishes their internal reel pieces use the red compound from Dremel? Should I grab something else?

Thanks. I was looking through it. No exact matches. Im trying to find something as close as possible.

When we polish we use the Dremel compound... :Victory:

Quantum Sga600Cx:  A Quantum signature series reel for Shaw Grigsby.
No longer supported by the MFG.
I would suggest that you contact Quantum directly and get a copy of the schematic, but doubt if there is one availible..
You might try getting a hold of a schematic for the accurist CX reels it might show the switches layout orintation.

Good Luck & Tight Lines! :fishing1:

RM, I emailed them already and they sent me the Accurist 501cx diagram. So you're correct, the schematic is no longer available. This is the only reel I pitched the box and the schematics when I bought it. :(  What quantum sent is very closely related so hopefully I can figure it out from this. Thank you for the response.

Just a thought:

Check with the people over at Out Door World Rod & Reel Repair.

They usually service the name/signature branded reels out there, and, might have a copy of the reels schematic, never know.... :Victory:

Flipping switches are one the 'gottchas' that exist in reels.

All of the flipping switches I've seen are one of two types:

1- A spring from the button to the clutch bar will allow the clutch to lock open when it is in one position. I the other position, it prevents the clutch from staying in the open position. Thus, when you release the thumb bar, the clutch automatically closes.

2- The clutch locks open, but pressing the flipping switch cause the clutch to close without cranking the handle. This is more of an instagage button, but still produces the desired effect.

I got the switch back in. So that is solved. Now my issue is how do I remove the side plate spool shaft bearing? I took the clip out but the bearing is down about an 1/8 inch and there is no way to grip it.

That worked perfectly. Thank you so much

Here's another bump in the road. How do I remove the line guide pawl shown in the picture?  I can not figure it out. My worm reel is filthy and needs to be removed but can't seem to figure this out. I flushed some of the bearings on this reel and surprisingly they weren't that dirty at all. The reel has been through hell and back. This is my project before I decide to do all my Shimanos and higher end stuff.

Tapping the nose of the reel on the bench sometimes moves them enough to get a grip on it. You can also try grabbing it with some sticky tape (duct etc). If I keep giving up the tricks of the trade we'll all be retired. lol

Thanks Mike. I tried to whack it a few times last night but maybe I was being too gentle. I appreciate your help and honestly if I had the cash to spend I would send it all to you. Times are tight and I got twins to feed. For now it's "do-it yourself" with the fishing stuff. The flipside is that I'm actually enjoying taking the reels apart and doing it myself.

Use a T-pin with a 90* bend in the tip, and go in through the groove on the worm gear, and push it out from behind.

I ended up using Mikes "90degree bobby pin" and J Francho's idea to go in between the worm reel and got it out no problem. Thanks a ton guys.  Just waiting for my shipment of reel grease to get here and I'm done. This reel was FILTHY but looking brand new now. 50 degrees in Chicago today through Saturday, unheard of for January ........think i'll be heading out for a few hours this weekend to see my results of this tune up.

All went back together great. Im concerned with the drag. I knew it was getting weak but with the drag cranked all the way down, I can pull line off the spool with relative ease. I don't ever use a full drag setting but still I think this will cause some issues. Are drag parts even around for this reel? Or should I toss it and move on?
