Hard Lures With Single Hook

Recommended Posts

New to the site . I was wondering if anyone has tried a hard lure, popper, crank baits with single rear hook. Removing trebles and just using a rear single trailer hook . Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance

Give it a try. The problem with most crankbaits is balance, so you will need to experiment with hook sizes.

My question is; why? Are you having a problem loosing bass hooked on traditional treble hooks?

No not losing any, we're just really catch and release. thought it would do less damage to fish and easier to remove an overly aggressive fish. Just wondering read it on another site.

Most people I know do that when they want to bounce it off of tree limbs and such so the front hooks dont catch wood. It is not something I do though.

Being a former flyfisherman all homemade top water baits are with a single hook you can't beat a old cork popper

Take out a jig or a texas rig in that case, you can even throw a wacky rig in there. I dont always like throwing crankbaits into really thick trees because they do get caught up a lot. It really depends on the bite, if the fish want a crankbait fire a crankbait in there and do your best to roll in over the limbs.

Remove the REAR treble on longer topwaters and jerkbaits, not the front, if you want to avoid hooking the fish outside the mouth.

I might pick one up in my next order.  Awesome concept not sure on how well it works though.

I swapped out the treble hooks with circle hooks on my top water lures. I know there is at least one manufacturer that is selling hard lures with standard hooks.

I would think if the goal was catch and release and not harming the fish removing the barbs from the hooks would be better than removing one of the hooks. Just my .02

Broke bass... I'll add my .02 to make your advice twice as valuable.
