Trip To Bass Pro Shop

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I will be taking the two hour trip from Raleigh to Charlotte North Carolina for my first visit to bass pro shops. I have never been before and was wondering how long it takes to actually go through the entire store and browse at everything including the bass fish tank. I was thinking two hours to shop then grab some lunch down the road and come back and shop for a couple more hours. I want to make the two hour trip worth it. :-)

Its worth it if you have never been there before. Bring a high limit credit card and a few shopping carts in with ya lol

Or a wad of cash works too. I mean really I cannot imagine spending more than a few hours there myself but I also don't like to shop, even when it comes to fishing stuff.

They are cool stores though and I am sure you will enjoy your time there. Also not sure if yours has it but the bass pro here in the Richmond area has a restaurant there too that is pretty good so you may not even have to leave.

I live very close to that one and have been there many times. It's pretty decent, definitly worth the trip at least one time. Honestly it's not a huge store but they have way more stuff that gander mountain if you've ever been there. Never eat at the little restaurant there but I would imagine it not great.

Give your self a couple of hours. They have a nice resturant in the bps.

I could easily spend three hours at one. The one in Orlando is supposedly on the bigger side so that may be why... but I will go just for fishing gear and leave an hour later - easily. If I were to really look at everything I'd be there all day. Reminds me I need a new knife....

I don't walk into my local BPS unless I can spend a minimum of one hundred bucks!  I could spend hours just looking then another few deciding what I want!

word of wise: only go by yourself or with another angler.  anyone else will likely want to cut ur stay short and nobody likes getting pulled out of a candy store

My Bps strategy :

-walk directly to the reel counter and test out every reel I want to buy and take notes

- test out the rods I want see how they feel

- mess around with random plastics and hardbaits

- any plastics reasonably priced or things on clearance usually pick up

- try on columbia gear and other clothes

- walk out spending about $20- $25 but with the intention of buying everything I looked at for a lower price elsewhere.

Just went for the first time myself a couple weeks ago.  It was awesome!  Think I was in there for about 2 hours.  Had $75 worth of gift cards but ended up spending an extra $90 in cash that I didn't originally intend to.  Everytime we started to leave my girlfriend would decide she wanted to look at the clothes or shoes or something.  So guess where I went while she did that.  Thats right.  Back over to the fishing stuff.  The fish tank was really cool.  Lots of big bass, a monster sized catfish and several other species.

One thing was kind of irritating though.  As I walked in, I was asked if I wanted to enter a drawing for a BPS shopping spree.  So Im like "sure, thats sounds great".  They lead me over to this little kiosk where I can fill out the entry slip and as Im standing there, this guy comes up and starts asking me all these questions about what I fish for, where I'd like to fish, and how much I spend on vacations.  At this point Im like "oh geeze...here it comes".  And then he goes into this long presentation trying to sell me a week long getaway at one of the BPS resorts that they run.  Don't get me wrong.  The resorts looked nice and the price seemed pretty good and all but the guy was really pushy about it, even to the point of offering me $100 in BPS giftcards if I buy now even though I told him several times that I didn't have the money for it.  Just a little warning.  If they ask you if you want to enter their drawing, politely decline.  Other than that though it was a great expierience.

Ours is attached to a shopping mall, its not nearly as big as cabelas but I am thankful for that because the hoards of people dont show up just to look at an elephant mount. Every time I have ever been in a cabelas I came out and said never again.

Ive been to the BPS in Richmond, VA a few times and the one in Hanover, MD a few times. I'm probably going to the Hanover store soon to look at spinning reels and maybe rods. The first time i went was the Richmond store though, drove 2.5 hours to get there and spent several hours there. I came away with almost $300 worth of stuff. At the Hanover, MD store which is about 1.5 hours from me i met and got an autograph from Roland Martin last year.

Man that was awesome! 4 hours and an undisclosed amount later, I am one happy angler. :-)

I'm close enough to a BPS that I can go in and just look around w/o any money.

I hope you are at least going to give us something of a loot report.  Some of us could use a fix you know, even if it's only vicariously!
