i have seen roman lures for over $400 bucks. at some point a world record large mouth was caught on one in Japan from what i heard also.

yeah they are quite expensive. i believe manabu kurita caught the current world record on one. (22-5)

That's like saying all Strike Kings cost $15 just because the 10XDs cost that much. Roman-made is the name of a brand/ company, not a particular bait.

 

The $400 bait is a 12" glide bait, called "Mother" IIRC. Most other Roman-made baits- the ones I can see on TW anyway- are less than $100, and believe it or not, that is a very usual price for hand-made big baits.

I remember when I first saw these at TW. Unless there is a money-back guarantee if you didn't score a record bass on the first cast, they aren't worth it but for a few fisherfolk worldwide.

And I thought Kurita caught the WR on a live bluegill... (Doh, I see this was mentioned already....)

Nothing beats a live bluegill. I know a pond where you can throw every bait made and not catch the 8+lb fish in it, slap a live bluegill on and you better hold on.

I have a Roman Made Lipless Trick that I just bought recently and the bait is really nice. It has the best balance and most realistic sink that I have ever seen from a swimbait. The closest thing I can compare it to is a triple trout but it really is in a league of its own. There are so many different styles to fish this thing but what I have found is the best is casting it past structure and when you get to the area you think the bass are holding you stop reeling, let it sink and give the rod a few very light twitches and the bait really comes alive. I think when the water warms up a faster retrive will be working better but the water is still in the 40's here. My only complaint is after I landed 2 fish and lost another the paint on the bait has started chipping and is getting scratched up pretty good. I know the fish dont care but after spending good money on a bait I guess I would like a stronger clear coat on it....

The old Lake Biwa record was caught on a Roman made mother the fish was 18+ the 22.5 was caught on a bluegill.

Definately a work of art and I can truly respect that!
