Injection Molding

Featured Replies

I have been pouring plastic for a couple years and it seems that more and more sites (bears baits, bass tackle, Bob's, Delmart...) are selling injection molds. I do not have any exp with these. Can you buy an injector from any site and use on your molds, or do you have to get it from the same site as where you bought your mold from? There are several new molds that I like but I cannot decide if I want to change over to injecting. Also, will injecting work for my current 2 piece top pour molds?

Thanks for your input.

All the major companies injectors and molds use a 5/8 hole and can be interchanged, with the exception of Jacobs.

Some 2 piece hand pour molds can be injected and some wont shoot properly without vents. My Senko mold would not work.

I have a few bear molds and caney creek.  I use a bear injector for those.

you can inject almost anything, yeah venting helps, but with the right trick you can figure it out. most injectors will work with most molds. you can even save a few bucks and buy a meat injector. just make sure its stainless steel. those meat injectors might not work right with molds. so be careful on that. i personally have a meat injector and one from bearsbaits. they both work good for different things.

Once you start injecting you will want to use it exclusively. Very accurate, quick, and way easier to make fine and detailed soft plastics. If you have a two piece hand pour you may not be able to inject it if the opening is too small. If you is large enough you may have to add an air vent to the bottom of each cavity with a fine file.
