Cleaning Sonar Screens.

Featured Replies

What do you use to clean your electronics? I was told to use a mixture of vinegar and water in spray bottle but have no idea if proportions or if this will in fact work. Any tips will really be appreciated.

I'm guessing you want to get rid of those whitish mineral spots that remain when the spray on the display dries.

A soft damp cloth works fine for me.  I've stayed away from glass cleaners.

Get a soft cloth, wet it, and wring it out.  Gently wipe down the display, and the entire unit if you want.  The screen will usually dry without spots.  If you still get spots, follow the damp cloth wiping with a soft dry cloth.

Humminbird RECOMMENDS Windex Multi-surface with vinegar for their screens.

You can use any snake oil and take the chance of screwing up the anti-reflective coating on them.

I have always used the little bottles of "Screen Cleaner" that you can get at Office Depot or places like that, works on my PC screen, phone, TV, and my fishing electronics.

Yes, that Windex does work, and so does KVD Line and Lure. Barely takes any to do your screens.

another vote for Windex Multi-surface with vinegar

i also use the windex multi surface with vinegar. I have never really tried anything else though.

Just plain Windex for me.

You probably can't go wrong with the same stuff recommended for monitors, tablets, TVs, etc, which is microfiber cloths and a screen cleaning liquid. Other stuff works but if they contain certain chemicals, that could be harmful. If you do a search on "how clean monitor" (without the quotes) you'll find a lot of information and methods and some cautions as well.

I've always used alcohol. Drys fast.

Thanks for the replies. That paper towel trick on the video is awesome. Thanks again

That's great, you use one of the substances that destroys the anti-reflective coating.

white vinegar and water has worked for me. I even have a tiny spray bottle on the boat to clean the screen while on the water. will also take the water marks off the motor.
