So have a LTB Small Cranker 1/4-5/8 rating, But I just bought a bunch of LC RC Silent Square bill 3.5 and 4.5 which are both rated

How bad would it be for the rod casting these lures considering its 1/8 over the limit?

You should be fine , as long as you don't go heavier than that . But it depends on the manufacturer of the rod . 

Its a St. Croix Legend Tournament Small Cranker,  I got the big cranker to, but I'm running 10lb floro on it for my DDs

just be careful on ur first outing. maybe use more of a tiger woods swing till you get comfortable with how the rod is going to load. why don't you want to throw them on the big cranker? 

You can toss 1oz on it w/o a problem. Its just a manufacturers recommendation.

My Big cranker has 10lb test on it for Deep Divers, I like using 14lb+ for my shallow to medium divers (both floro)

I agree, pay attention as to how the rod loads up because the whole program could start singing reel fast.

No problem, I do it every single day.  I use several rods rated max at 1 oz, 1.5 oz is pretty common for me to use on them, I just cast easy and let the rod load up.

Seriously, my MH Berkely lighting shock rod says it can do over an ounce I believe. Not even close

To the op, I side with the public. Your biggest issue will be casting. A fish weighs well over your rod rating and it wont break your rod. So that bait shouldn't.

X2..I have a 6' 6" BPS cranking stick and have used crank baits way bigger than recommened and only issue i had was the occasional backlash. I have picked up another one for the bigger cranks but fished that for years with much larger baits and landed a 6lb 12oz on a deep diver with no issues.

I find I backlash and lose accuracy when going outside the range. Never feared breaking a rod though.

Crank bait rods should be slower action and forgiving in regards to lure weight you mentioned.

The issue is lure water resistance; deep divers require more rod power to effectively retrieve the lure.

Try the lures on both crank rods and use the rod that works best!

The rod I use for rattle traps is a 5/8 oz rod, I always throw 3/4-1 ouncers on them all the time. I found that if you go over the "limit" the reel handles everything better with heavier line but if your still using line you would for 1/2 oz lures it will most likely result in more backlashes than if you went up a few sizes.

I use 17lb line for 3/4 and 20lb for 1oz.
