Looking at buying one of these. Is it that much better than my Avid 7'MHM to make it worth the investment on a rod for moving baits?

I just bought the Mojo Bass flipping stick and I'm extremely impressed with the quality of their lower costing rods.

 

I looked at the higher end ST> Croix s and there wasn't that  much of a difference in the components especially not 100 more beans of a difference.

 Is it that much better than my Avid 7'MHM to make it worth the investment on a rod for moving baits?

 

 

As much as I LOVE my SCV's, I don't feel, for this application, it's worth upgrading from the SCIII.  If it was the 610MLXF, I'd say go for it, but not for a cranker.

Not for moving baits. If it dealt with any bottom contact presentation then I would say the extra money is worth it, but with that style presentation there is a lower demand for the rod to be sensitive and perform accordingly. If you are looking to venture into that price range, the money will be better spent on a rod for bottom contact presentations. Your avid is a nice rod for moving baits already, I see no need to upgrade.

Thanks for the input, all!  I was trying to take advantage of the bargain Room specials on the St Croix website, but the 72MHM is pretty much the only rod I was considering.  Of the rods they have available, I have a 7'MF Xtreme that I love, but don't need another of, and I've got a 7'ML Elite for drop shotting already, so the 610MLXF, to me, really isn't much of an upgrade.

I own the 72MHM. I believe Dwight owns it as well on this site. I too got a good deal on it.  The rod is a dream to fish lipless baits/squarebills and mid divers on. It isn't necessary to spend that on a reaction rod but if it's all you really want that it is an amazing rod to fish. You will see an improvement on obviously sensitivity and the blanks action. It is a perfect moderate action rod in my opinion.  Remember though, you can't use the upgrade plan for bargain room rods.

Thanks for the input.  And my mistake on the "upgrade" comment.  I clarified with a while back that I can't use the upgrade plan for bargain room rods.  I just meant that I don't consider the Xtreme blanks to be better than the Elites.  Both are SCV blanks.  The difference comes from the finished rod configuration, with the split grip and recoil guides on the Xtremes.

Both the bargain room xtreme (2012) and elites are the same exact blank. the new 2013 xtremes use a different upgraded blank. You are correct on the only differences are the rods components. I'm glad you like the 7'mf. It is something special. That rod is one of the few st. croixs i didn't get rid of for Dobyns. 

If I could trade a MHM Avid for MHM Extreme or Elite, I would in a heartbeat! So if you can afford it, go for it, it is a nicer rod, and after all, if we only bought good enough, well, I would have much cheaper equipment than I do now, and less of it. But it sure is more enjoyable using slightly better equipment than is absolutely necessary, and like I said, it is a better rod!
