Sending My Veritas In For Repairs

Recommended Posts

I bought a Veritas 7'6" MH back when they came out around June of 2011, it quickly became my go to flipping stick. This past season, one of the guides came out and now the one above it is beggining to loosen. I was going to take it to a local shop for repairs, but since it's within the 3 year rod warranty, I'm thinking maybe I should ship it out to Abu Garcia to be fixed. Has anone else had this issue? What would be my best bet?

Send them an email, they will ask you to take pics of the rod, receipt if possible(if no receipt explain it was a gift) and they'll send you a new rod...arrives in about a week. May cost you the max of 9.95 but probably nothing at all. They have never asked back for a rod from myself or any of my friends.

I've been really lucky with all 4 of my Veritas rods on the guide issue.

You might try just bringing it into the dealer and see what they will do.

He can try that but I believe the over the counter is 30 days in most places, then 3 years through Abu. Im not saying they wont swap it for him but I know the email route is quick.

Diggy hit the nail the head. Try the Abu route. They may just send you a new rod. However it is, it is under warranty and Abu will make it right. Abu/pure fishing have excellent customer service. Pure fishing will normally get back to you in a couple of hours and let you know something. Id say try that.

Theres a good chance you can end up with a new rod. Why not... one little email to find out cant hurt.

Besides..like diggy said, i havent heard of anyone having to return rods. Im saying to go the ABU route because if you do and they send you another rod. You can always take the veritas to a local rod repairman and have him put a new guide on it. Now you have two..

I took Pics this morning w/my phone before I left for work & I brought the reciept w/me. With the amount of $$ I spend on rods & reels I can't afford to lose receipts, and after reviewing the receipt I realized I had returned the original rod because of the exact same problem. I really hop they do right by me. I'm gonna email them, hopefully I get a new rod, Thanks fellas!

I bought 4 - Veritas's of various sizes last year and really like the rods except for the guides.

I don't know where they found those Evolve guides, but they are really weak.  If you bend one getting it out of the rod locker, 50/50 it'll snap when you straighten it.  Guess they went for light over all other considerations.

Janns is discontinuing, or maybe Fuji is, the LAG series of guides.  They look enough like the Veritas guide to suit me.  I just ordered a dozen various sizes and pop them in when I need to.

I've had a few loosen up.  I just push them back in and put a drop of epoxy on 'em.  I don't like those little single foot guides on a flipping stick, anyway.  Just too much power with 50 lb braid for them to stay  in place.

Pure Fishing should replace though, if you want.

Half an hour later they emailed me back saying they would love to replace the rod, all I have to do is pay $9.95 for them to ship the new rod! Im gonna get the one I have repaired & I'll have 2.

Until Abu can fix the quality issue with their guides, I'm gonna refrain from buying any that I can't visually inspect. I've had major issues with guide alignment, along with epoxy cracking off on my Veritas micro guide rods. Had to send more than enough back, but hopefully the ones I have now don't develop any issues. NEVER buy an Abu micro guide rod without visually inspecting it first. Guide alignment on some of them is down sickening. :puke_blue:  :puke_blue:  :puke_blue:

I've had really good luck with mine. I snapped one in half on a big stripe and just two days ago damaged the tip guide severely. The salesman at my tackle shop said all I had to do was bring it in and he would replace it in store. He said to quote him, " it doesn't matter if u shut it in the car door or whatever we will replace it at no cost." I've been very impressed with Abu Garcia warranty.

You can even ask for a replacement in another veritas size/model if you want...fyi

Our local tackle shop actaully sells alot of Veritas and Villians. I have heard too many horror stories about the guides. I have a veritas that i actually broke the tip on durring its first out and abu replaced it. But the guides issue and breakages is what scared me away from ever looking at the villains. Im too scared to buy them but a buddy of mine loves them. They actually fish well, but but im not try to chase ghosts.

This is the exact reason I haven't bought a micro guide villain. I really want that rod, but their QC sucks. Either getting a Phenix Recon or a Falcon Bucoo micro.

I had two Veritas rods and they both broke near the tip. Maybe the quality is lacking because they are sending out free returns hand over fist.

I'm not saying anyone would break a rod on purpose :)  but if you are able to get a new rod for $10 and have your rod repaired to then have two rods, what would keep someone from doing so?

Diggy, I didn't know that I could get a different size/action as a replacement. Honestly I used the rod with the guide missing for the better part of last season. If thats the case I'm gonna have to take a trip to Dicks & check out which new rod I'm gonna get. I already bought the epoxy & the guide for the broken rod, gonna save some $$ and replace it myself.

After just 3 business days, yesterday I got my new Veritas rod. It DID come in a tube, which I thought was funny because when I called the send time to request that it be shipped in a tube, the lady said they dont do that. So after just one email and two short phone calls & $10, I got a brand new rod. Also, I repaired the old rod with a double foot Fuji guide, some black bonding tape, epoxy & crazy glue.

Had the same issue with 2 of my veritas as well, but I was able to return it and get something else. I am staying with Shimano or Dobyns, they never given me any issues.

I really like the Veritas line, they're super lightweight, sensitive, and the price is right. It's a shame the rods lack the durability and longevity of other rods in or around the same price range. I'll keep using these rods until they give out, but I dont plan on buying anymore in the future. I have a couple St. Croix rods which I've used much more often for a longer period of time and they have held up like champs. I guess I'll be sticking with them for future purchases (unless Abu Garcia makes some serious quality control changes)

Im planning on getting a Veritas this weekend. I have been worried about all the breaking I have heard about, but the customer service sounds good enough to give them a try

I can't speak for the rod but I sent a reel in which wasn't working and back came a new reel in the newer model.  Their customer service rocks!
