i've been trying to find someone who makes custom rods like the acid rods.i'm wanting to find a price on something this or having 1 build. any help would be appriciated.

Sounds about right for a higher-end stick.  Custom prices can vary from the low $200's to........?

First off you talk to a custom rod builder, and, he isn't a java run script on a website page.

The process is a lot more personal than that. All you have learned there is what it could run you.
As a retired custom rod builder I would have to measure the hands on a client, ask a 100 differant question about grips, guides seats, angling style, techniques the rod is to be used for, balance, etc.. Have the client handle some of my builds etc.

So IMPO take a look in your phone book if you still have one, for the local small mom/pop tackle shop for a local custom builder.

Well said RM!!  Truer words could not have been spoken.  It takes years of experience to know how to read a person's desires and measure them properly to get a rod that is truly custom versus just built.

I built custom rods for many years, but no longer.  Most prominent tackle shop know the rod builders,

and those that can repair rods, and replace guides.  Contact a Tackle shop in your area and inquire.

It would be easy for you to build one yourself.  Cabelas has a good source, and a tackle building

handout similar to a fishing catalog.  They generally send a how to, booklet with every rod kit that is

purchased.  There glues and finishes are also excellent.  Great way to start, and get a superior product

once you have finished.

As was stated, spec'ing out components on a website is not really a "custom" rod.  There are little things that a builder can do for you that make it truly yours.

I just started my own custom rod making business in 2012.   It's still in the early stages and because I work full time I'm not making many rods retail.I only made 14 rods in 2012. I just needed an outlet to buy wholesale so I can sharpen the pencil.

 

At this point, I only sell rods to people in person. I want to make sure handles get measured correctly and thread colors are seen up close and weigh their reel on a scale.
