Lake Mozingo (Mo)

Featured Replies

Anybody on here ever fish this lake? I am new to the area and have heard mixed reviews about the lake.

It's a good lake, lots of standing timber and weeds. It gets lots of pressure though and lots of tournaments during the summer months but it still produces lots of fish and several in the 7-8 pound range every year during those tournaments. It's mainly been a cranking or flipping bite anytime I've been there but I've never been there early in the year, usually late spring through early fall. During the heat of the summer if you can find the offshore brushpiles and get a crankbait down into them you can really load the boat with some big fish. Flipping the grass along the shoreline is almost a sure thing to score a limit, just a matter of how big they will be.

I would not recommend fishing it between Memorial Day to Labor Day.  The lake is 1000 acres and has a ton of pleasure boat and pwc pressure.  Also the weeds and lily pads get so thick you can't get into the coves so you are stuck on main lake and fishing the edges.  In the spring there is a tournament almost every weekend.  I personally wouldn't say any particular tactic is better than another on the lake, you can catch fish on anything you throw.  There are big fish in the lake and tons of little ones.

Blue... sounds like you and me should try that lake out this summer.... ;)

Mozingo is great lake to fish.  What Bluebasser said is true, and tritonguy is correct that some of the coves can get pretty choked with weeds.  I recommend fishing this lake during the week if you want to avoid the crowds.  There are some good fish in this lake.
