Whether it's all year round or just for the winter, how do you store it?  Do you have it on some sort of rack, or on sawhorses? Do you cover it with a tarp?

I do. I have 5 yaks in a makeshift rack outside, and stored upside down, and my Native Ultimate hangs from the ceiling of my car port, out of the elements per se.

I hang it from 1/2" rope, 2 straps, and (currently) 6 pulleys. The more pulleys, the easier to lift.

I store both mine outside with the coosa on the top rack and the commander hanging from that same rack with both being hull side up. I try and throw a tarp over them when I remember but I rarely go more than a week without heading out in one of the two boats so I just leave them uncovered. I know UV breaks down the plastic but I figure I will beat the crap out of/wear out the boat long before that happens.

For my canoe, I was going to hang it from the ceiling with one of the commercially available sling and pulley systems but thought that would be a hassle.  There are also wall-mounts available but I didn't like that system either.  So, I made the dolly shown in the photo. Stored on it's side, the canoe (or a kayak) only takes up a few feet of depth away from the wall. The dolly is on casters so I can move it around as I need to.  I still fit a compact car in the garage bay next to the canoe.  Under the canoe is a storage area for all the gear that goes in the canoe (PFD, anchor, fishing stuff, etc.) and above the canoe is storage for the "dashboard" that has the sonar.

 

My wife calls it my "canoe hutch"...

That's what I was thinking. I can't show this to my wife, she'd know a garage (or car port) can actually be clean, and I'd have no excuses left.

That's a three-car garage and it's pretty well organized and uncluttered.  Above the garage is a 30-foot long attic..........that is NOT very well organized and is VERY cluttered....

I store mine in my 12x12 shed. Up on their sides kind of like Goose has his although I have one on a rack I made out of 2x4s screwed to the studs and the other sits under that one on the floor.

And, yes, I've stored my kayak outside, in the shade for three years, no ill effect.  I bring it in the garage for the winter.

Thanks - it has worked out very well - hardly takes up any room and I can still get a car in that bay.  The TM and battery are stored on another custom dolly so everything related to the canoe is out of the way and mobile if I need to move them.

I dug two holes in the yard with a post hole digger and put in two sections of 4x4 PT in concrete. Then I bolted on 4 crossbars using 2x4 PT lumber. Rack is 40" above the ground and holds 4 kayaks. I could have gone a little higher with the posts and used the standard kayak J hooks but that would have added $200 to the cost of the project and as it was I got by with scrap lumber and a couple bags of post hole mix.

 

I did not want to attach anything to the side of the house and end up with termite or dry rot damage and with kayaks up to 16' in length storing them inside had gotten to be a pain.

Awesome ... I thought I was looking at the middle of the living room at first.  Is that a Radisson canoe?  If so I have a similar one which I keep outside on sawhorses with a tarp on it.
