Need Some Input On A Worm Combo

Featured Replies

I broke my worm rod this weekend and am trying to pick out a new combo before I graduate and lose my college club's deal on equipment.  My previous combo was the standard team Daiwa MH worm rod with an older blue quantum energy.

I'm trying to decide between a Cumara, Avid or GL2 for the rod.  I don't want to replace this rod for a long time so a good warranty is a huge plus.

The reel will obviously be matched with the rod but unfortunately, I don't have an opportunity to try out the combo in person before I order. For the reel, I'm trying to decide between a Curado 200G or a Revo SX Gen 3. I own a Curado right now and I love it, however the new Curados are not getting good reviews.   I've never had the opportunity to really use Revo for more than a couple casts and I haven't tried the gen 3 at all.

Anyway, I need your help!  I'd appreciate your opinions especially ones without too much brand bias if that's possible :wink2:.

The St. Croix Legend Xtreme is in the bargain cave on St. Croix's website for 185, though it is a 6'10 M/XF. Croix under rates their rods a bit (power wise) and in my opinion couldn't be beaten for the price...

Avid and GL2 are also good choices.

No experience with the new revo short of borrowing but I can't say anything bad about them at all.

I would go Avid/Revo. Croix has an awesome warranty program and revos have never let me down.

I'd go with the Avid or Cumara.  As for the reel, the Curado G isn't as bad as those reviews are, I own 3 of the G series and don't see an issue with any of them.  I also own 3 Citica Gs,  Bottom line they are good reels, what I think the biggest complaint have been that they have lowered the quality as compared to the E series.  They are still smooth and frankly I don't see what the craziness is about (I own a E7).  Either way, I don't see you going wrong with getting a G or SX.

Cumara all the way. TW has the prevoius generation rods on cleanance right now for $100. I would take it over an Avid and a GL2 any day of the week.

cumara or avid. the reel would be just personal preference.

Second this. The previous cumaras are exceptional rods. They can be had really ccheap too.

I'm wary of the GL2s, no one seems to like the sensitivity of those sticks. Outside of that, I say all good options.

X2 you won't find a better new rod under $200

x3.

Wait... Can I do that? :D

x4 just got my 72MM squarebill rod in the mail, matched with a Gen 3 Winch ooo so light and sensitive, yet sturdy and strong.

LTB is really good also but if you can get the extreme for that price go with that

Had to go with the Cumara. The price was just too good to pass up.  I'm leaning towards the Revo for the reel.
