Lews Tournament

Featured Replies

I've been seeing the building up of quite the Lews following here lately, and reviews seem to indicate that Lews makes quite a nice reel. Since I'm not tied to any specific brand and Lews makes LH models in most gear ratios, I'm considering purchasing a few. My question is, what is the difference between the Tournament and the Tournament Pro other than the light weight measures of the Pro such as the duralumin gears?

That's about all there is in terms of differences, I believe. The TP has a carbon handle and duralumin gears. The regular Tournament has an aluminum handle and brass gears. I believe them both to be solid reels, even though I haven't fished either of them.

As long as you're talking about the tournament speed spool and not the tournament mg then yes it's a good reel. I own quite a bunch of Lews reels and all are lh models. I prefer the Tp due to it's weight but on certain rods an extremely light reel doesn't balance out well. So the extra weight can help in some cases. On my Powell Diesel 7'2 I prefer the tournament because it feels better but on my Kistler 7'2 micro I like the Tp. It's such a light combo. The BB1 is also another great reel to look at if you're interested in Lews stuff

The Tournament SS has one less bearing along with the differences mentioned, but you won't notice it, it is every bit as smooth as the TP, and real close to the Team, The weight difference is as stated, a plus on the rite rod!!

i own both reels and both of them are amazing!!! a ton better than my new revo s and my quantum pt's! as for which i would choose i would probably get the regular tournament and use the 50 bucks on tackle. but my tp is my favorite reel, but only slightly tops the model below it, either one you choose you will love it

I don't think Lew's make a bad reel!! You could buy me anyone of them and I would be HAPPY!
